Dividing Ridge Burglar Picks Wrong House

ROBERTSON COUNTY TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – An alleged would-be burglar is recovering at an area hospital after apparently choosing a home containing a “retired tactical operator” Monday afternoon, officials said.
At 3:06 pm the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a burglary in progress call at a residence located in the 1400 block of Dividing Ridge Rd. For those of you that live in the area, this will be the Greer Rd end of Dividing Ridge. MAP
Upon arrival, Deputies with the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office took the alleged would-be burglar (a male) into custody. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the individual “appeared to have overdosed and was taken to a nearby hospital.”
The Sheriff’s Office told Smokey Barn News that the suspect had an “encounter” with the homeowner who was apparently home at the time.
Robertson County EMS released the following regarding the incident; “A male subject was transported via emergency traffic to a local trauma center following an encounter with the homeowner (a retired tactical operator) after a break-in during broad daylight” Robertson County Emergency Medical Services Director/Chief Brent Dyer
Robertson County EMS, the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office and the Ridgetop Fire Department all responded to the scene.
“This is currently an open investigation,” the Sheriff’s Office added. If any further details emerge we will bring it to you.
UPDATE: SUSPECT CHARGED…
According to the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office, 45-year-old John Douglas Duke has been charged in the case.
Directly following his release from the hospital, Duke was taken to the Robertson County Detention Facility in Springfield Wednesday at 1:52 AM.
Duke has been charged with Aggravated Attempted Robbery, Aggravated Criminal Trespassing, Aggravated Burgerly, Assault, and Criminal Attempted Aggravated Assault. His bond has been set at $72,500.00. As of 1:48 PM Duke was still incarcerated in Springfield.
