Dollar General Robbed At Gunpoint Monday Evening
SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Bar News) – We have confirmed with officials that the Dollar General in Springfield located at 51 Mooreland Dr was robbed at gunpoint Monday evening.
The business is located across from the Center Stage Shopping Center behind Shoney’s restaurant.
According to Springfield Police, around 8:52 p.m. Monday evening two subjects wearing ski-masks and socks over their hands entered the store. One of the subjects brandished a handgun. After displaying their weapon, the subjects demanded money.
Police say there were two employees in the store at the time of the robbery but no customers were inside the business.
No one was injured during the robbery and police told Smokey Barn News that they will be releasing more information later in the day including a better description of the suspects. The robbery was captured on video surveillance and police say several witnesses saw the suspects flee the scene.
According to Springfield Police Chief David Thompson, the suspects may have fled on foot towards Mockingbird Lane. (See Map) According to witnesses, two black males were seen running from the Dollar General after the robbery. The suspects then fled in a white older Pontiac, possibly Grand Prix.
Thompson told Smokey Barn News that though his detectives were pretty sure the two males leaving in the Pontiac were the same individuals he left room for a margin of error. “We’re pretty sure those were the two guys that got into the Grand Prix,” Thompson Said.
One suspect was described as 6’0 wearing a blue sweatshirt armed with a sliver small caliber handgun. The second suspect was described to be shorter in height wearing a black hoodie.
According to police, the suspects took an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register and the safe.
