CROSS PLAINS TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A crash that left a pickup truck looking more like a crumpled tin can than a vehicle had a pleasant surprise inside. The 16-year-old driver survived and had sustained no life-threatening injuries, officials said.

The crash occurred on Hwy 31W at the Hwy 25 intersection around 4 pm. LOCATION OF CRASH

Officials say the vehicle left the roadway, went down an embankment, and struck a tree with such force that the vehicle nearly broke in two.

Due to the severity and location of the crash, both Sumner and Robertson EMS responded. After the crash, the driver was trapped inside the vehicle. The Cross Plains Fire Department, with the assistance of the Orlinda Fire Department and the White House Community Volunteer Fire Department (Station 51), extricated the driver who was alert and talking, according to Cross Plains Fire Chief Tommy Jackson.

According to Robertson County EMS, the (male) driver was transported to an area hospital with no apparent life-threatening injuries.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the crash but an immediate cause has not been released. The Sumner County Sheriff’s Office also assisted at the scene.
