Driver Critical After Accident In Portland

PORTLAND TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A Portland man received “multiple traumatic injuries” and was in critical condition Monday evening after losing control of his vehicle and impacting a parked trailer Monday afternoon.
The accident is still under investigation but officials believe the driver (Ronnie F. Cole, age 59 of Portland) left Hwy 31w, traveled through a field and then through a fence coming to rest beneath the trailer at a loading dock off of Fred White Blvd. Location of wreck
Portland Firefighters removed the roof of the vehicle in order to free Cole from the tangled mess. After a lengthy extrication Cole was transported via Life-flight to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville in Critical condition with multiple traumatic injuries, according to Russell Gupton, Robertson County Emergency Medical Services assistant director.
Unfortunately the injuries Mr. Cole sustained from the accident proved to be to much for him and he passed away the next day at Vanderbilt Medical Center.
According to Gupton, Cole may have experienced a medical emergency prior to the accident.

Obituary for Mr. Ronnie Cole
Mr. Ronnie F. Cole, age 59 of Portland, TN. passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, TN. Mr. Cole was born in Oak Grove, TN. on February 13, 1956 and was the son of the late Ruline Cole.
Mr. Cole is survived by his wife, Pam Cole of Portland, TN. A son, Ryan Cole of Portland, TN. A daughter, Taylor Cole of Portland, TN. 3 brothers; Joe (Theresa) Cole, Larry (the late Jane) Cole, and Terry (Kathy) Cole all of Portland, TN. 2 nephews; Jody and Jesse Cole and 2 nieces, Jennifer Cole and Tammy Thompson
Ronnie is preceded in death by a nephew, Kerry Cole. Ronnie was a welder by trade and worked for United Structures of America for nearly 25 years.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 8, 2015 at 4:00 PM at Portland Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Portland Memorial Garden in Portland, TN. Visitation will be after 3:00 PM Thursday and from 9:00 AM until service time Friday at Portland Funeral Chapel.
