Driver Flees On Foot After Crash During THP Pursuit

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, a traffic stop in Springfield led to a pursuit and crash of a commercial vehicle after the driver failed to pull over during a traffic stop.

The incident occurred around 1:30 am Friday morning. The vehicle appears to have been heading west on Hwy 49 with the THP in pursuit when the driver failed to negotiate a left turn onto Hwy 76.  The vehicle crashed through a guardrail, utility pole support cables, and then traveled down into a wooded ravine.

According to the THP, the driver fled on foot after the crash and has not been apprehended. The THP searched the wooded area on both sides of Hwy 49 for about an hour after the crash.

According to the THP, the driver should not pose a threat to the surrounding community. The commercial vehicle had Papa’s Mobile Repair printed on the side.

Why the driver fled, the identity of the driver, or if the vehicle was stolen was not understood at the time of this report.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol, the Springfield Fire Department, Robertson County EMS, The Robertson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Springfield Police Department all responded to the scene.

No Troopers were injured. Smokey Barn News was broadcasting live at the scene for much of the evening. For a recording of the feed click here.
