SPRINGFIELD, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A freak accident in Springfield claimed the life of a local woman when a tree fell on her vehicle Tuesday evening.

The accident occurred in the 3900 block of Kinneys Rd just outside Springfield, the first call coming into 911 at 7:01 pm.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) is leading the investigation, according to their preliminary report, the vehicle, a 2007 Ford, (traveling NORTH on Kinneys Rd) went under the tree (as/or) just after it fell. The THP’s report clarifying that the tree fell in front of Suggs vehicle before impact. The collision ripped off the top of the vehicle, the impact claiming the life of the driver, now identified by the THP as 54-year-old Laurel Suggs. After impact the vehicle left the roadway and rolled down an embankment.

The trees on either side of Kinneys Rd in that area are situated down an embankment, low-lying where the ground was likely saturated from recent heavy rains, which, combined with today’s powerful wind gusts, may have helped push the tree over just as the Laurel passed by.

North Robertson Fire & Rescue, the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Robertson County EMS, the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office, and Payne Chevrolet Towing as well as county work crews all responded to the scene.
