DUI Stop Leads to Arrest of Murder Suspect on Bond in Greenbrier
GREENBRIER, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – According to the Greenbrier Police Department, a routine DUI stop on Christmas Eve led to the arrest of a suspect who was later found to be out on bond for First Degree Murder in Shelby County.
Police say that on the evening of December 24, 2025, officers conducted a traffic stop for suspected DUI. After the driver, now identified as 38-year-old Justin Dshane Howard, was asked to exit the vehicle to perform field sobriety testing, the individual fled on foot, police said.
While running, officers observed a loaded handgun fall from Howard’s waistband. Officers quickly apprehended the individual. During a subsequent investigation, police determined Howard was also in possession of a second loaded handgun and a controlled substance.
Further investigation revealed that Howard was out on bond in Shelby County, Tennessee, on a charge of First Degree Murder at the time of the arrest.
Howard was taken into custody and transported to the Robertson County Jail, where charges include possession of a controlled substance, prohibited possession of a firearm, evading arrest, resisting arrest, DUI, and related offenses.
Police officials stated the arrest highlights the importance of DUI enforcement and officer vigilance, noting that while many residents were celebrating Christmas Eve, officers remained on duty to protect public safety.
