Fatal Crash Shuts Down Tom Austin Highway at Old Hwy 431

SPRINGFIELD/GREENBRIER, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Robertson County EMS has confirmed that one person has died following a crash on Tom Austin Highway at the Old Highway 431 intersection. LOCATION OF CRASH The crash occurred directly in front of the Marathon gas station. Officials report a T-bone type collision involving a large commercial vehicle (by our research, a hydrovac truck, also known as a vacuum excavation truck) and an SUV. The SUV resembles a police vehicle, but it is a decommissioned unit and is not in active law enforcement service, according to officials.

Traffic update, effective now, Tom Austin Highway is shut down except for one lane if you are leaving Springfield. If you are coming into Springfield, you will be diverted to Old Highway 431. Expect significant delays while THP investigates. We highly recommend choosing an alternate route if at all possible.

There is no estimate for when the road will fully reopen, it could be several hours. We are communicating with authorities and will update as more information becomes available.

Update: The Tennessee Highway Patrol’s preliminary report identifies the SUV driver as J. Concepcion Casarreal Jaimes, from Tennessee, driving a 2014 Ford Explorer, he was fatally injured. The second vehicle was a 2019 Peterbilt vacuum truck driven by a 52-year-old man from Tennessee, he was not injured, no charges are listed at this time.

The THP lists the crash at 9,47 a.m. on September 22, 2025, at Tom Austin Highway and Old Highway 431 North in Robertson County. According to the narrative, the Explorer was stopped at the Old Highway 431 North stop sign, the Peterbilt was southbound on Tom Austin Highway in the right lane, the Explorer pulled into the roadway into the Peterbilt’s lane, the Peterbilt struck the left center of the Explorer, the Explorer came to rest on the northbound right shoulder and right lane, the Peterbilt came to rest in the center turn lane and the northbound left lane.
