Fatal I-65 Crash Claims One Life Early Wednesday -THP Investigating

ROBERTSON COUNTY, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News)-  One person has died following a rear-end collision on I 65 North in Robertson County.

The crash occurred at or near a truck parking area on I-65, the first call coming in to 911 at 2:15 a.m. MAP Wednesday morning. According to Robertson County EMS Director Brent Dyer, crews arrived at the 119-mile marker to find a small Ford sedan with heavy damage after an apparent impact with a semi, the vehicle landing on its roof after impact. The car’s only occupant, a man in his 20s, was pronounced deceased at the scene. No other injuries were reported.According to Orlinda Fire Chief Patrick Darrow, the driver was pinned in and had to be extricated. Darrow expressed his appreciation to the City of White House Fire Department for their assistance.

The Orinda Fire Department, the City of White House Fire Department, Robertson County EMS & EMA,  the THP and the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office all responded to the scene.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol is leading the investigation into the crash; however, they have indicated that they are “unable to release any information at this time. As soon as they are prepared to release more details, including the identity of the victim, we will bring it to you.

UPDATE: The Tennessee Highway Patrol is releasing more information regarding the crash. According to their preliminary report,  Ethan Lee Mitchell, age 23, from Texas, in a 2010 Ford Escape, lost his life in the crash. THP states the Escape was traveling north on I-65 at mile marker 119, (and for reasons unknown) left the roadway to the right, struck the rear of a parked 2017 Kenworth semi trailer on the gravel shoulder, then entered the grass and overturned. Mitchell was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Kenworth’s 41-year-old driver and a 27 year 27-year-old passenger, both from Mississippi, were not injured. No further information was released.
