ROBERTSON COUNTY, TENNESSEE (Smokey Barn News) – The big races started with clear leaders, but a pair of local contests supplied some election-night suspense as Robertson County’s returns came in Tuesday. We’ll start our report with the water cooler breakdown.  Marsha Blackburn led the governor’s race locally from the opening report, while Bill Hagerty, Matt Van Epps, Kerry Roberts and Sabi “Doc” Kumar also opened ahead and finished with larger shares of the county vote. In Cross Plains, the standings shifted for the second of two city commission seats, with Brandy Hasting moving ahead of Marlene C Graves. Brad Keith finished just one vote ahead of Hasting at the top of that race. Orlinda also saw a change in its top three, with Sherry L. Carver overtaking Troy Haag for the third commission seat.

The first report, issued at 7:15 p.m., included early and absentee voting. Blackburn opened with 5,709 votes to Jerri Green’s 4,162, then finished the county count with 12,582 votes, or 53.77%, to Green’s 7,674. David Hatley finished third with 2,665.

Hagerty’s share of the county’s U.S. Senate vote grew from 61.34% in the opening report to 66.02% in the last tally. Van Epps increased from 60.60% to 65.62% in the 7th Congressional District race. Roberts went from 65.66% to 70.22% in State Senate District 23, while Kumar increased from 61.45% to 65.98% in State House District 66.

Cross Plains provided one of the closest finishes. Keith began with 119 votes, followed by Graves with 113, Hasting with 111 and David G. Ridings with 96. With two seats available, Graves initially held the second position by two votes. By the 9:31 p.m. report, Hasting had moved ahead of Graves, and those standings remained unchanged in the final report: Keith had 247, Hasting 246, Graves 239 and Ridings 176. Hasting finished seven votes ahead of Graves for the second seat.

“Cross Plains, thank you! I am honored and humbled to be your next city commissioner.

“To everyone who answered the door, took a call, or replied to a text, I heard you, and those conversations meant the world to me. To my husband Sam, my kids, and all my volunteers, I couldn’t have done this without you.

“I’ll keep working to make our community safe, clean, transparent, and fiscally responsible, and I’ll always be a voice for Cross Plains. Let’s get to work together!” Brandy Hasting, Cross Plains City Commissioner-Elect

In Orlinda’s three-seat commission race, Wesley E Jordan and Leah Beth Canon held the top two positions in both the opening and closing reports. Haag initially held third with 57 votes to Carver’s 54. The final tally reversed those positions, with Carver at 148 and Haag at 143—a five-vote difference.

Elsewhere, Justin Bahorik maintained his advantage over Casey Bohn in Coopertown’s Ward 2 alderman race. Monty Gregory and John Neely held the top two positions for Ridgetop’s two alderman seats, and Kristy Thompson maintained her lead over Carianne Koschak in White House’s Ward 2 contest. All three constitutional amendments received majority support among Robertson County voters.

By the last report, issued at 9:52 p.m., all 18 precincts and all 70 pieces of election equipment had reported. The county recorded 23,507 voters participating, representing 48.02% of its 48,948 registered voters.

All results remain unofficial and are subject to certification. The totals below reflect Robertson County votes only; statewide, districtwide and multicounty municipal outcomes cannot be determined from this county report alone.
