Fire Engulfs Downtown Springfield Outbuilding Monday Night
SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – An outbuilding wedged right in the middle of downtown Springfield ignited into a fireball Monday evening.
The call came around 11:30 pm that the building was engulfed. The 20X30 structure (a storage building, according to the Springfield Fire Department, is located near the corner of 5th Ave and Willow St. MAP
Springfield Firefighters arrived quickly and navigated their equipment to the building that is tucked back in behind several buildings along 5th Ave. Firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to adjacent properties and no injuries were reported.
Hwy 49/5th Ave between Hill St and Main St was closed for about an hour while crews extinguished the fire and secured the scene.
The building sustained heavy damage and will likely be classified as a total loss. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The Springfield Fire Department, Robertson County EMS, the Springfield Police Department, the Robertson County Sheriff’s Department, the Springfield Electric Department, the Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Robertson County Emergency Management Agency all responded to the scene.
