Fire Safety Alert Issued for Robertson County Amid Increased Brush Fires

UPDATE: New fire reported on Cook Rd near Orlinda. That makes FIVE today.

ROBERTSON COUNTY, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) –  Chance Holmes, Director of the Robertson County Emergency Management Agency is urging residents to use extreme caution with fire and open flames following several grass/brush fires today..

So far, there have been four brush fires in the county, with two still active—one on Campbell Road in Cross Plains and another on Stacy Springs Road in Springfield. Earlier in the day, fires were reported on Betts Road in Greenbrier and Bethlehem Road in Springfield.

With dry conditions and a light breeze, any spark can spread rapidly. If you’re burning debris, grilling, or using any open flame, take extra precautions:

  • Keep a water source or fire extinguisher nearby.
  • Never leave a fire unattended.
  • Avoid burning during windy conditions.
  • Ensure all embers are fully extinguished before walking away.

The recent warm temperatures are likely contributing to increased outdoor activity. After a stretch of frigid temperatures we had in recent weeks, today’s 72-degree weather has more people outside. While enjoying the warmth, please stay fire-aware.

Additionally, the rising temperatures mean more motorcyclists will be hitting the roads. Remember to check your blind spots and look twice for motorcycles—they can be harder to see than you think. We’ve added our motorcycle visibility safety video below, demonstrating just how easy it is for a motorcycle to disappear behind a ballpoint pen!
