Firefighters Save Orlinda Home But CPR Unable To Revive Family Dog

ORLINDA, TENESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – An Orlinda area home is still standing thanks to the courageous efforts of our local first responders on Halloween morning. No one was in the residence when the fire ignited in the kitchen, eventually spreading into the attic. Homeowners returned to find their house on fire and called 911, with the first call coming in at 11:09 AM on Halloween morning.

Firefighters from the Orlinda Fire Department, Cross Plains Fire Department, and the White House Community Volunteer Fire Department responded swiftly and aggressively attacked the fire. The Robertson County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) and Robertson County EMS also provided critical support.

According to Orlinda Fire Chief Patrick Darrow, the fire, which started in the kitchen, had spread to the attic by the time firefighters arrived. Fires that breach an attic are notoriously difficult to contain, but thanks to a quick and aggressive response, the blaze was brought under control. Chief Darrow noted that the fire was contained to the kitchen and a small section of the attic. Although the home, located in the 9300 block of Hwy 49 in Orlinda, sustained smoke and water damage, 80% of it remains intact—a remarkable outcome given the circumstances. “It was a good stop,” Chief Darrow said.

Chief Darrow expressed his gratitude, saying: “Thanks to the extraordinary efforts of the White House Community Volunteer Fire Department and the Cross Plains Fire Department, along with EMA and EMS, we were able to save the home. Their assistance was invaluable, and we deeply appreciate their dedication.”

One pet, a dog, was found inside the home and did not survive despite paramedics’ attempts at CPR. The fire had been smoldering for some time before making its way into the attic. Thanks to an aggressive attack on the fire, most of the damage was contained to the kitchen, while the house as a whole has been largely preserved.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.
