Former Robertson County Executive/Mayor Robert Michael Crawford Dies
ROBERTSON COUNTY TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Former Robertson County Executive Robert Michael Crawford has died. Crawford reportedly passed in the afternoon hours Saturday, he was 83.
Crawford was the County Mayor (called County Executive until 2006) prior to former Mayor Howard Bradley.
The elected position has had three name changes between the 1960s and 2006. In the 1960s it was called County Judge. Years later the job would be called County Executive followed by yet another name change to County Mayor in 2006.
According to former Robertson County Mayor Howard Bradley, Robert Crawford was elected to the county commission in 1966 and served 8 years. Crawford was then elected “County Judge.”
According to Bradley, Crawford was very outspoken and committed to his ideas. He came back to the commission some years after having lost the executive position in 1982. He served as commissioner until 2010.
“Mr. Crawford and I differed on many issues but I found him affable and reasonable. He was respected by all that knew him,” Howard Bradley.
The Honorable Robert Michael Crawford of Greenbrier died at his home Saturday afternoon. The Austin and Bell Funeral Home is handling arrangements for Mr. Crawford. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm. Wednesday, February 19th at Greenbrier First Baptist Church.
Burial will follow in the Greenbrier Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held at the Greenbrier First Baptist Church on Tuesday, from 3:00 – 8:00 pm and again on Wednesday, from 10:00, am until the hour of service at 1:00 pm.
Michael was born on December 11, 1936, to the late Robert E. and Mary Reeder Crawford at his home in Greenbrier. Both he and his wife Linda were members of Greenbrier First Baptist Church.
