Garage Erupts in Flames, Threatens Home in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A garage in Springfield turned into a fireball early Saturday morning, just feet from an adjacent home. Fortunately, the Springfield Fire Department was able to respond quickly and contain the fire to the garage.

The home is located on 5th Avenue near South Maple Street. The fire was visible from the Robertson County Courthouse, with the first call coming into 911 at 2:23 a.m. MAP

While the back of the house was singed and the meter had to be pulled, the damage to the home was minimal, and no injuries were reported. The family of about five was put in contact with the American Red Cross for assistance. A garage and at least one vehicle, possibly two, were lost in the fire, but thanks to the swift response by Springfield Firefighters, the damage was limited. It was another great stop by Springfield Firefighters.

Due to the extent of the damage to the garage, it may take time to isolate the cause of the fire. The Springfield Fire Department, Robertson County EMS, the Robertson County Emergency Management Agency, and Springfield Police all responded to the call. Fire video: Ben/Sam Mendenhall
