Greenbrier Daycare Worker Faces Felony Child Assault Charge on One-Year-Old  Greenbrier Daycare Worker Faces Felony Child Assault Charge on One-Year-Old

GREENBRIER, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – On November 25th, 2025, Greenbrier Police were notified by Tristar NorthCrest Medical Center in Springfield that a one-year-old boy had been brought into the emergency room with facial injuries. Police said the injuries (shown in the photo below, supplied by the child’s family) were significant and included bruising and discoloration on one side and lesser bruising on the other. Police said the injuries were very concerning, and an investigation was launched.

According to Detective Joseph Chelini with the Greenbrier Police Department, the investigation led him to a daycare facility at Calvary Baptist Church located at 2806 Hwy 41 S, in Greenbrier. MAP When police arrived, the daycare had already terminated the teacher, now identified by Greenbrier Police as 31-year-old Morgan Sloan of Greenbrier, and had immediately notified the parents and DCS after another staff member noticed the injuries. The injuries were not initially reported by Sloan until they were discovered by another faculty member, police said. Police said that Sloan told the other treacher that she found the child that way. The parents arrived a the daycare center and took the child to Tristar NorthCrest Medical Center.

Police located Sloan, and she was voluntarily brought to the police station for questioning.

During an interview at the police station, Sloan initially claimed the child had fallen, but later confessed to striking the child twice in the face because she couldn’t handle the crying. During the investigation, police learned from the daycare center that on November 13th, another child under the Sloans’ care had also sustained similar injuries. Police say the story was the same; the child had fallen, but no foul play was suspected. When questioned by police about the November 13 incident, Sloan admitted to striking that child, too. As a result, she was charged with multiple counts of aggravated child abuse—both classified as felony-level offenses.

Detective Chelini emphasized that the daycare followed all proper procedures, reported the incident to the parents and DCS, and cooperated fully with the investigation. Faculty then took photos and released Sloan and filed an incident report. Chelini confirmed a background check had been done on the teacher as required by law. Chilini went on to say that his agency suspects no wrongdoing by the church daycare.

The child’s caregiver, who contacted Smokey Barn News, said both the daycare and law enforcement have done everything they could to address the situation appropriately and “help rectify it as best as possible.”

She also expressed deep appreciation for first responders, adding, “We love EMS and NorthCrest. They treated us like family.”

Sloan is currently held on the charge of AGGRAVATED CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT x 2 under a $100,000.00 bond at the Robertson County Detention Facility in Springfield.

The photo was sent to Smokey Barn News by the family of the child.
