GREENBRIER, TENNESSEE (SMOKEY BARN NEWS): A Greenbrier police officer has been hospitalized following an on-duty motor vehicle crash while performing official duties early this morning.

According to officials in Greenbrier, the crash occurred at the intersection of Hygeia Rd and Betts Rd, the first call (via radio) coming into the 911 dispatch center at 4:03 AM. LOCATION OF CRASH The officer was transported to Skyline Medical Center, where he is currently undergoing treatment for injuries sustained in the crash. At last report, the officer was in stable condition.

According to Greenbrier Police Detective Joseph Chelini, the officer’s patrol vehicle struck a tree, a utility pole, and a nearby house before coming to a stop.

Preliminary information suggests the officer may have experienced a medical emergency just prior to the crash.

The identity of the officer has not been released.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the incident. Officials say additional information will be released as it becomes available.
