Greenbrier Plate Reader CAM Snags Stolen Semi Out of Florida
GREENBRIER, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – On Sunday morning, December 22, 2024, around 11:00 a.m., Greenbrier Police were alerted by automated license plate reader cameras, known as Flock Safety systems, that a stolen vehicle had entered their jurisdiction. The vehicle, a tractor-trailer, was reported stolen out of Boca Raton, Florida.
As the stolen tractor-trailer made its way through Sumner County, it triggered alerts from the same camera system. However, officers in that area were unable to intercept the vehicle. Once the truck reached Greenbrier, local police were positioned close to the alert location and quickly responded.
Within minutes, officers located the tractor-trailer and conducted what Detective Joseph Chelini described as a “high-risk traffic stop,” a procedure that prioritizes safety due to the nature of the situation. Fortunately, the stop was made without incident, and no injuries were reported.
During the stop, a K-9 unit alerted to the presence of narcotics, leading to a search of the vehicle, police said. While the investigation is ongoing, officers confirmed that the trailer had been reported stolen out of Florida.
This case highlights the effectiveness of license plate reader systems like Flock Safety, which can identify stolen vehicles and alert law enforcement in real-time. Similar systems are being implemented in nearby areas, including Springfield. FULL STORY
The technology is not only designed to recover stolen property but also to locate missing persons, such as in Amber Alert situations, demonstrating its broader potential to aid law enforcement.
The investigation remains active, and additional details will be released as they become available.
