Highway 41 Shut Down in Greenbrier Following Serious Crash

UPDATE: Hwy 41 may remain closed until 6 PM. Drivers are advised to avoid the area and not attempt to drive through.
UPDATE 5 PM: Greenbrier Police received a call regarding a reckless driver. Officers located the suspect vehicle and attempted a traffic stop. The driver failed to comply, initiating a brief pursuit. During the pursuit, the suspect encountered an additional marked patrol vehicle, lost control, and crashed into a telephone pole. The impact caused the pole to fall onto the roadway.
As officers approached the crash scene, they were forced to take evasive action to avoid a secondary collision with the downed pole. The area was later secured and cleared by CEMC.
While waiting for the scene to be made safe, the driver was observed discarding suspected illicit items from the vehicle. The driver sustained significant injuries in the crash and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
A search of the vehicle revealed over half a pound of methamphetamine, approximately three ounces of marijuana, multiple unidentified pills, and a large amount of cash. Charges are pending as the investigation continues.
The crash is being investigated by the Tennessee Highway Patrol, while the criminal investigation is being led by the Greenbrier Police Department.

GREENBRIER, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – We have a serious crash in Greenbrier. The crash occurred near Wilson Street, directly in front of the American Legion on Highway 41. LOCATION OF CRASH Utility lines are down across the highway.
We’re told the individual in the vehicle was injured in the crash. Witnesses report that the driver was read his Miranda rights and taken into custody by police. He is expected to be transported for medical attention at a nearby hospital.
The crash likely caused utility damage in the area, and power outages are being reported nearby. CEMC is currently on the scene working to repair the lines.
There is no confirmed timeline yet for when the road will reopen, but officials say at least 2 hours. Drivers are encouraged to seek an alternative route until the area is cleared.
