Obituary for Lovel Travis Cook

Lovel Travis CookLovel Travis Cook, 88, of Springfield, died Thursday August 17, 2017 at North Crest Medical Center.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday August 19th at 11:00 a.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Bro. Doug Spain officiating. Interment followed in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Chad Cook, Curt Cook, Tyler Cook, Colton Hudgins, Bernie Hudgins, Collin Cook, Danny Cook, and Loren Green serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were the past and present members of the Robertson County Commission, James Green, and Danny Dean. The family received friends on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Mr. Cook was born December 12, 1928 in Robertson County to the late Charlie C. and Lovie Wright Cook. He was a farmer, and he retired from the Robertson County Board of Education as a bus driver for over 30 years. Mr. Cook served as a Robertson County Commissioner for over 25 years, and was a member of Owens Chapel United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in floral squaredeath by his brothers: Leonard and Buford Cook, his sister: Naomi Goostree, his grandson: Travis Cook, and his great granddaughter: Malia Head.

Mr. Cook is survived by his wife: Jo Ann Chowning Cook of Springfield, sons and daughters-in-law: Charlie and Marilyn Cook, Mark and Farah Cook, Brian and Mary Cook all of Springfield, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren

Obituary for Mary Porter Smith

Mary Porter SmithMary Porter Smith, 88, of Springfield, died Thursday August 17, 2017 at The Hearth of Hendersonville.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday August 19th at 2:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Reverend Alicia Burton officiating. Interment followed in the Elmwood Cemetery with Scott Morton, David Dean, Mike Hollingsworth, Bentley Parrish, Lynn Empson, Rob Quarles, and Galen Ross serving as pallbearers. The family received friends on Saturday from 12 noon until service time at the funeral home.

Mrs. Smith was born November 22, 1928 in Robertson County to the late Fred and Kathleen Porter King. She was a retired County Director with the Tennessee Department of Human Services. Mrs. Smith was a lifelong member of the Daughters of American Revolution and was a member of Central Christian Church in Springfield, where she was very active in many church activities. She volunteered at United Way, enjoyed golfing, shopping, walking, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, floral squareshe was preceded in death by her husband: Walter E. Smith, by her brothers: Charles E. King, Daniel W. King, and Robert L. King, and by her sister: Mary Elizabeth King.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her son: Steve Devaux of Mill Valley, CA, her daughter and son-in-law: Linda and Joel Carrillo of Newport News, VA, six grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Frank Aubrey RutledgeAge 78 of Cross Plains passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at his home. He was born November 30, 1938 in Albertville, AL to Aubrey and Nell Estes Rutledge. He worked in maintenance at Dupont before his retirement. He attended Birdwell’s Chapel Church of Christ.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Paul Cripps; granddaughter Ammie Dorris. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Linda Head Rutledge, Cross Plains, TN; daughter, Kimberly Cripps, Greenbrier, TN; brother, Fred Rutledge, Florida.

Interment will follow in Cross Plains United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation is planned for Saturday, August 26, 2017 10am until 2pm at the funeral home.

Obituary for James Hoover, Jr.

James Hoover, Jr.James Hoyt Hoover, Jr., age 67, of Nashville, passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at his home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 2pm at the Belmont Church in Nashville. Burial will be held Monday, August 28, 2017 at 11am in the Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the Belmont Church on Friday, August 25, 2017 from 4-8pm and again on Saturday from 1pm until the hour of service at 2pm.

Mr. Hoover was born November 19, 1949 in Nashville to the late James and Edna Downey Hoover, Sr. He was a Captain in the Metro Fire Department. He was also a veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy and the TN Air National Guard. Mr. Hoover was a member of Belmont Church and over the years, he and his wife had been foster parents for 20 foster children.

In addition to his parents Mr. Hoover is preceded in death by his sister, Dianne Hayes. Mr. Hoover is survived by his wife, Cathey Upchurch Hoover; sons, Andy (Phoebe) Hoover of Nashville and Richard (Andrea) Hoover of New Orleans, LA; daughters, Trish Hoover of Carthage, TN, Christi Hoover and Jessica (Tyler) Quick, floral squareboth of Nashville; sister, Kathleen (Ralph) Toothman of Springfield; and grandchildren, Rachel Hoover, Laurel Hoover, James Hoover, Thomas Hoover, John Hoover, Payton Hoover, Evelyn Hoover, Aria Quick, Rosie Quick and Ethan Quick.

Burial will follow in EverRest of Cheatham with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

Mr. Ford was born January 1, 1971 in Nashville to James Rodney and Janice Binkley Ford of Ashland City. He worked as a carpenter.

John Paul is preceded in death by his grandparents, Haywood & Ethel Binkley and Paul & Beatrice Ford. In addition to his parents he is survived by his sons, Steven Ford of Adairville, KY, Hunter Marcum of Pleasant View and Jack Ford of Ashland floral squareCity; daughters, Christin (Jordan Bailey) Ford of Bowling Green, KY and Madiline Briggs of Ashland City; brothers, Kevin (Carrie) Ford of Atlanta, GA and Jody (Regina) Ford of Joelton; grandson, Easton Bailey; and several loving nieces and nephews.

Ellen is survived by her son, Billy (Stephanie) Cothern; her daughter, Deonna (Jeff) Houchins; husband, Herbert Dunavant; grandchildren, Christa Beyerll, Orin Houchins, Elan Houchins, Jason Cothern, and Ashlynn Cothern; and great-grandchildren, Bailey Head, Xavier Houchins, and Sidney Houchins.
