Mary Jewel (Wooden) Fuquay
June 24, 1930 ~ January 19, 2025 (age 94)

Mary Jewel Wooden Fuquay, 94, of Springfield, passed from this life on Sunday January 19, 2025, at Morningside of Springfield.

Mrs. Fuquay was born June 24, 1930, in Adairville, KY to the late William Clifton and Barbara Anne Sircy Wooden. She was a homemaker, the center stone of her family, and a member of Woodland Street United Methodist Church. She enjoyed cooking and canning, traveling, dancing with her late husband at Military Balls, watching sports on television, laughing, and visiting with her family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Paul Kempf Fuquay, and by her siblings: Willie Bea Sircy Wooden Yates, Drury Vernon Wooden, and Dorothy “Dot” Wooden Burr.

Mrs. Fuquay is survived by her children: Eva Paulette Jones of Adams, Paul Kempf (Brenda) Fuquay Jr. of Springfield, Donaldfloral square Vernon (Fanta) Fuquay of Cedar Hill, and Deborah Fuquay (John) Hart of Lynchburg, and by her ten grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

Robertson County Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements, and a private family graveside service will be conducted in Springfield Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider making a memorial donation to Stokes Brown Public Library, or the public library of your choice, in her memory.

Ward Durham
April 23, 1936 ~ January 21, 2025 (age 88)

Thomas Ward Durham, age 88 of Adams, passed from this life on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at the Residence at Alive Hospice in Nashville. Memorial services were conducted Friday, January 24, 2025 at 1:00 PM in the Oakhurst Chapel of Robertson County Funeral Home with Tim Harris officiating. The family received friends from 12 noon until the time of service. Mr. Durham’s cremains will be buried in Bellwood Cemetery at a later date.

Mr. Durham was born April 23, 1936 in Portland to the late Robert Wayne and Allene Freeland Durham. He retired from Nashville Gas Company and was a veteran of the United States Marines. He enjoyed playing golf and fishing. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Jean Burton Durham.

Mauriece “Don” Templeton
November 24, 1933 — January 11, 2025

Mauriece "Don" TempletonMauriece “Don” Templeton, age 91, of Hendersonville, TN, passed away in his home on January 11, 2025. Born November 24, 1933 in Goodlettsville, Tennessee. Don was a graduate of Greenbrier High School in 1952.

Don entered the Navy in June of 1953 and served at bases in California & Virginia, followed by serving in Vietnam & Korea. He retired from the Navy in May of 1974, after 19 years of honorable service.

After the Navy, Don was a pharmaceutical sales representative for Syntex Laboratories in Nashville, TN. During retirement, he loved to travel and visit with his many friends. Don enjoyed many things in life such as playing Bridge, bowling, fishing, and hunting. Don was a devoted husband, father, son, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to the many people who loved him.

Left to cherish memories of Don are his wife of 67 years, Ruby “Mary” Templeton, granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, Emilyfloral square Templeton Ford (Will) of Starkville, MS, MaryKate Templeton Buckner (Brian) of Huntersville, NC, and three great-granddaughters: Ruby and Clara Ford, and Avery Buckner

Don was preceded in death by his parents John and Mary McClurkan Templeton, his son Mauriece Dale Templeton, and his grandson Graham Templeton.

A joint service will be held at a later date with his wife Mary.

Mary Sue Shelton
January 29, 1939 — January 18, 2025
Hendersonville, TN

Mary Sue Shelton, a beloved matriarch and cherished member of her community, passed away on January 18, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on January 29, 1939, Mary Sue’s life was marked by her unwavering love for family, her passion for gospel music, and her profound faith.

Mary accepted the Lord at the tender age of ten years old during a tent revival, a decision that profoundly influenced her life and those around her. She began singing gospel music at a young age with her family, The Reid Family, this continued over 60 years. In 1976, she embraced her role as a pastor’s and evangelist’s wife when her husband, Rev. Bobby Shelton, announced his call to preach.

Known as “Mom Mary” to everyone fortunate enough to know her and sit at her table, she was a servant to all. A woman of many talents, Mary was not only a devoted caregiver but also a talented cook, who delighted friends and family with her great southern cooking, even feeding them at Mary’s Place, her country store in KY.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Deadra (Deedy) Steele; grandsons, Troy (Katy) Peach and Travis (Amanda) Peach; and great-grandsons, Isaac, Clayton, Shelton, and Samuel, nephews, Derek Allgood and Darrin Hickman; and niece, Dayna Hunter. She is also remembered fondly by several great nieces and nephews who cherish her legacy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Bobby Shelton; her sisters, Carolyn Allgood and Betty Hickman (James); and her parents, A.W. and Ella Reid.

A Celebration of Life will follow on the same day from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at White House Memorial Gardens in White House, TN.

Mary Shelton will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, faith, and music will continue to resonate in the hearts of all those she touched.

Dottie Jane Reid

Dottie Jane Reid, age 81, of Nashville, TN passed away in Old Hickory, TN on January 18th, 2025. Dottie was born in Dickson, TN to the late Ruby and G. B. Mitchell Jr. on September 11th, 1943. She is also preceded in death by her husband of 25 years James Wilbur Gourley, and her sons: Mark Mackey, Eugene Hodges, and Dewayne Hodge. She is also reunited in heaven with her sisters Madeline Montgomery and Julie Hendricks. She is survived by her sons Charles Mackey Jr. and Mitchell Mackey, as well as her sisters Rosie Krapf, Joyce Burns, Bonnie Mitchell, and Sheila Fletcher. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Although she is gone, her memory will remain in the hearts of those who loved her.

A woman of formidable strength and an indomitable will, Dottie was known for her strong, stubborn, and hard-headed nature. Yet beneath that façade remained a genuine person with a heart of gold, one that beat with love for her family and an unwavering commitment to their well-being. She raised five energetic boys, a testament to her strength and patience, navigating the complexities of motherhood with a grace that only she could muster. Her sons fondly recall the joy of wearing matching outfits crafted by her skilled hands, a reflection of her creativity and devotion that went beyond mere threads and fabric.

Dottie’s interests revealed her caring personality. She often found solace in the art of sewing, where each stitch was a labor of love, a tangible reminder of her dedication to her family. In her free time she would find her seated comfortably, engrossed in the world of reality television—whether the courtroom dramas of Judge Judy or the sensational escapades of Jerry Springer, she enjoyed the look into other people’s lives. She also embraced the thrill of wrestling; her boysfloral square remember going out on Saturday nights to enjoy the electrifying matches. Those nights were filled with laughter and excitement, forming cherished memories that would last a lifetime—a testament to her ability to foster connection and joy within her family.

There are no services scheduled for Ms. Reid. In lieu of flowers the family please asks for donations to be made in memory of Dottie to the Wounded Warrior Project to honor of all her family that nobly served to protect our country.

Gaile Arrington
June 10, 1954 — January 20, 2025

Gaile Pope Arrington, age 70, of White House, TN passed away at Alive Hospice in Nashville, TN on January 20th, 2025. She was born in Memphis, TN to the late Robbie and A.W. Pope on June 10th, 1954. She is also preceded in death by her siblings: A.W. Pope Jr., Christine, Shirley, George, and Pat. She is survived by her daughter Sabrina Arrington, and her sisters Judy, Kathy, Sharlene, and Linda, her best friend Roseann Taylor, as well as many nieces and nephews. Although she is gone, her memory remains in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.

For thirty years Gaile dedicated herself to her career as a bookkeeper for an advertising company, skillfully managing finances that helped distribute custom gifts for companies eager to show appreciation to their clients. It was a role that allowed her tenacity to shine brightly, embodying her strong-willed and feisty personality, and showcasing her skills in essentially managing a business.

At the heart of Gaile’s existence was her deep love for her family, particularly her daughter, whom she treasured as her proudest accomplishment. Their bond was beautifully tied together through countless memories; excursions to the beach, yet Gaile found solace by the poolside. Trips to Pensacola Beach, Florida, and the breathtaking island of Hawaii became cherished chapters in their shared story, where the gentle caress of the sun was accompanied by laughter and heartfelt conversations, but where the sand remained a distant acquaintance—now and then dipping her toes into its inviting warmth.

Her nurturing spirit was felt in every meal she lovingly cooked, with her chicken and dumplings standing as a culinary mystery, forever a taste that eluded her family as they tried to replicate her magic in the kitchen. She was also an animal lover, as elephants captured her heart. There are no services to be scheduled for Ms. Gaile Arrington. He was the owner and operator of David’s Automotive in White House for 27 years. He enjoyed fishing, racing, camping, boating and spending time with his grandchildren. He was an avid collector of fishing lures. He is preceded in death by his parents; mother of his children, Anita Clem Jones.

David is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Tammy Jones, White House, TN; daughters, Cheryl Nelson, CA and Shelly Jones, Cross Plains, TN; step-daughter, Kelly Calvin, OH; brothers, Doug (Tammi) Jones, Watertown, TN, Jeff (Linda) Jones, Gainesboro, TN and Darryl Jones, Mary Esther, FL; sister, Martha Jones Wade, Nashville, TN; 9 grandchildren, Adam Jr.,floral square Joshua, Madilynn, Anna, Lydia, Emma, Londyn, Journee and Violet; several nieces and nephews.

Matthew Lay

Matthew LayMatthew Onvest Lay, age 51, of Madison, passed away Sunday, January 19, 2025 at Skyline Medical Center in Nashville. A memorial service was held Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at 12pm in the chapel of the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in White House.

Mr. Lay was born October 19, 1973 in Nashville to the late Benny Carl Lay and Mrs. Shelia Smith Lay. He grew up in Robertson County and graduated from White House High School in 1991. From there he went on to Aquinas College on a partial basketball scholarship. Eventually, he became the Warehouse Manager/Machine Operator at Tapes and Technical Solutions. Mr. Lay loved sports and video games and was a huge fan of U.T. and the Washington Commanders. He played middle school basketball and high school basketball, breaking the record at graduation for the most rebounds as of the 1990-1991 season.

Mr. Lay was an organ donor. More than 50 people will benefit from this unselfish decision.

In addition to his father Mr. Lay is preceded in death by his grandparents, Theo and Wynell Smith and Onvest Hooper and Opal Lay.

The family will receive friends 4pm to 8pm on Friday evening January 24th and again on Saturday January 25th 1pm until time of service at 2pm. Burial will follow in the Greenbrier Cemetery with Bob Jameson, Randy Brown, Art Orsbon, Thomas Perko, Dakota Bray and Bryce Clark serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer will be Nicky Dorris.

Ann was born in Springfield, TN to the late William Chester and Virginia Josephine Brown Browning.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Gray Ledbetter; son, William Thomas Ledbetter and nephew, Michael Dale Clark.
She is survived by sisters, Judy Clark and Jo Brown of Greenbrier, nieces, Renee Emberton and Vicki Clark; nephews, Randy Brown and Billy Clark; special friend, Suellen Jameson and her puppy, Wester.

Ann was a member of Ebenezer Baptist church and worked as a Homemaker / Caregiver for the Mid Cumberland Community Action Agency. She was a crafterfloral square and a big fan of Alabama Football and the Denver Bronco’s. She enjoyed playing games on the computer and anything Elvis.

Mr. Mitchell was born September 15, 1964 in Nashville to the late Mr. Ralph Mitchell and Mrs. Martha Spivey Mitchell. He worked as an Estimator and was a member of the Greenridge Church of Christ. Before attending Greenridge he was a member of Northside Church of Christ for over 24 years. He loved horses and owned and cared for several during his lifetime. He loved his floral squarefamily very much. He married the love of his life and best friend over 31 years ago, and his son, Jake, meant the world to him.

In addition to his father, Mr. Mitchell is preceded in death by several aunts and uncles that he loved very much.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Bess Wibking Mitchell; his son and daughter-in-law, Jake and Mollie Mitchell; brothers and sisters-in-law, Johnny and Daphney Mitchell and Tony and Alisa Mitchell; and grandson, Liam Sullivan.

He enjoyed camping, fishing, riding his tractor, hiking and collecting vintage cars. Mr. Claibourne was a member of Orlinda Church of Christ. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, John Claibourne; sister, Carolyn Sanders.

He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Patricia Claibourne, Springfield, TN; sons, Scott (Cathy) Claibourne, Springfield, TN, Curtis (Sandy) Claibourne, Smyrna, TN and Philip (Mitzi) Claibourne. William “Bill” O Payne II

William "Bill" O Payne IIAge 70 of White House, TN passed away Saturday, January 25th at home. He was born January 10, 1955 in Owensboro, KY. He was a Christian, hard worker, enjoyed finishing, hunting and working with his hands. He retired after 37 years from Parkes Companies. His greatest joy was his family, a devoted husband, a loving father, brother, Granddad and friend. He is preceded in death by his son William O. Payne III. He is survived by his loving wife Marie Payne, daughter Veronica Nicole (Jeremy) Gourley, sister Victoria Grant and Grandchildren Austin (Haven) Payne, Jackson Payne, Autumn (Christopher) May, Timothy Dalton Payne.

Bill loved life! He never met a stranger and had a heart full of gold. He was a treasured friend to so many. If you were in his life, you were the lucky one. Patient, kind and joyful. He had the best stories, he listened, provided guidance and was always willing to help everyone. He loved music and singing. He will be forever missed.
