Obituary for Randall Stacy Rigsby

Age 54 of Hickman, TN passed away Thursday, May 21, 2020 at Riverview Regional Medical Center in Carthage, TN following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born September 3, 1965 in Springfield, TN to Floyd Eugene and Dorothy Shaver Rigsby.

He worked as an electrician for Maddux Electric Company. Randy loved listening to music, especially classic rock and he enjoyed fishing. He was an avid NASCAR fan with Dale Earnhardt being his all time favorite driver. He always told everyone that he would love to have Kelly Pickler as his wife.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Barry Dale Rigsby. He is survived by sons, Ryan (Courtney Williams) Rigsby, Ridgetop, TN, Jared Rigsby, Grenbrier, TN and Jacob Rigsby, Colorado Springs, CO; daughter, Amanda (Nathan Payne) Rigsby, Franklin, KY; brothers, Eugene (Betty) Rigsby, Nashville, TN, Ernie Rigsby, White House, TN and Eddie (Kathy) Rigsby, Joelton, TN; sister, Reba (Phillip) McKenzie, Hickman, TN; 4 grandchildren, Jeston Rigsby, Cora Rigsby, Hailee Rigsby and Logan Payne; 2 great-grandchildren, Bo Rigsby and Walker Rigsby; numerous nieces and nephews.

Obituary for Verbal “Tiny” Louise Walker

Verbal “Tiny” Louise Walker, age 93, of Hendersonville, TN passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2020.

Tiny was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a faithful servant and member at Hendersonville Church of Christ for over 15 years. She retired from Metro Food Service after 25 years. She had been a resident of Christian Manor in Hendersonville for 20 years, where she came to love reading, puzzles, and traveling with friends.

In addition to her parents, James and Doranda Waynick Felts, she is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Walker, whom she married in 1947. She is also preceded in death by her siblings, James Felts, Jr., Lloyd Felts, Virgil Felts, Donald Felts, and Mai B. Fuller.

She is survived by her son, Bobby Walker; daughter, Phyllis McElhiney and son-in-law, Dr. Wayne McElhiney; grandchildren, Lydia (Stephen) Sanders, Trisha (Michael) Cummings, Robby (Kylie) Walker; and 7 great-grandchildren also survive.

Obituary for James Evans

James Neal Evans, age 78, of Cedar Hill, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2020 at his home.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at 2pm in the chapel of the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with the Evans Family officiating. Burial will follow in the Springfield Memorial Gardens with Jeremy Rogers, Michael Rogers, Boog Evans, Frank Sanford, Scoot Gannon and Bubba Evans serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10am until the hour of service at 2pm.

Mr. Evans was born May 23, 1941 in Springfield to the late John Reeves and Lora Mae Gray Evans. He was a self-employed Contractor, loved riding motorcycles, playing X-Box games with his great-grandson, Bradley, tattoos and fishing. He was a member of The Chosen Few motorcycle club and was a member of the CMTABAT.

In addition to his parents Mr. Evans is preceded in death by his sister, Delores Ann Evans and his granddaughter, Cheri M. Evans.

Obituary for William Donnell Bell “Donnie”

“Donnie” William Donnell Bell was born on June 26, 1959 to the late William Henry and Dorothy Jean Bell. He was born and lived in Springfield, Tennessee until his transition on Wednesday, May 20, 2020.

He attended church with family at the Church of God Sanctified. He was joined in Holy Matrimony to Conda Polk and was loved by his son William Dominique Henry Bell and stepsons, DeQuon, DeAngelo, DeJohn, and daughter, Destiny.

He graduated from Springfield High School, home of the Yellow Jackets in 1977 where he was a valuable and outstanding member of the Yellow Jackets Basketball team as well as a studious student. Donnie was awarded a basketball scholarship to attend Motlow State Community Junior College and Austin Peay University where he obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree. He was a member of the Governor’s Basketball team and a proud member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

Donnie was employed at Holley Carburetors, in Springfield, Tennessee for ten years and Bridgestone Firestone in LaVergne, Tennessee for fifteen years.

floral squareDonnie is survived by five siblings, two sisters, Billie Jean Bell, Aileen Jones and three brothers, Wendell (Ester) Mitchell, Claude Bell, and Vutnor (Melissa) Bell. He was a loving uncle and grand uncle to his nieces, nephews and grand nieces, nephews and he had a host of cousins and friends.

Due to COVID-19, private family services will be held Saturday, May 23, 2020 at 12 Noon at W. D. Crowder Funeral Home Chapel with Elder William Birdsong, Eulogy; interment in Restlawn Memorial Garden.

Obituary for Glenda Kay Rust Hunter

Glenda Kay Rust Hunter, 82, of Hopkinsville, KY, passed from this life on Thursday May 14, 2020 at St. Thomas Hospital West in Nashville. She was buried in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery in Hopkinsville, KY on Monday May 18th.

The family will have a Celebration of Life Memorial Service at a future date.

Mrs. Hunter was born May 1, 1938 in Adams, TN to the late Noel D. and Thelma Lynch Rust. She was a graduate of Jo Byrns High School and went on to receive her teaching degree from Austin Peay State University. She taught at both Krisle School and Bell School in Robertson County, and retired from the Christian County Kentucky School System. Mrs. Hunter loved to travel.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Donald D. Hunter, and by her siblings: Scott Rust, Janet floral squareRust, Naomi Rust, Louise Rust, and Ann Davenport. Mrs. Hunter is survived by her brother and sister-in-law: Charles and Martha Rust of Adams, by her sister: Carrie Rust of Lafayette, IN, and by several nieces and nephews.

Obituary for Harry James Griede, Jr.

Harry James Griede, Jr., 73, passed away on Sunday May 17, 2020 at Skyline Medical Center.

The family will have a Celebration of Life Memorial Service at a future date.

Mr. Griede was born April 19, 1947 in Oaklawn, IL to the late Harry James and Alice Zeephat Griede, Sr. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Vietnam War. Mr. Griede retired from the tire merchandising industry and then went on to work as a Medical Transport Driver with Mid Cumberland in Springfield, where he later retired. Mr. Griede was a member of Springfield Baptist Church, where he served as an usher for many years. He loved gardening and working in his flowers.

Obituary for Marvin L. Smith, Jr.

Marvin L. Smith, Jr., 98, of Springfield, passed from this life on Monday May 18, 2020 at North Crest Health.

A private family graveside service will be conducted Thursday May 21st in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Brother Martin Babb officiating.

There will be no public visitation.

Mr. Smith was born January 18, 1922 in Clarksville to the late Marvin L. and Viola Gilbert Smith, Sr. He was a graduate of Springfield High School and went on to attend the Bowling Green Business University. Mr. Smith a veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he served as a Naval Pilot and Instructor with the Naval Pilot Aviation Program. He was a member of Springfield Baptist Church for 86 years, where he enjoyed supporting the many outreaches and functions of the church. Much of his business career was centered around the tobacco industry, and he was an owner in Better Block Company, INC. in Springfield. Mr. Smith served on the Robertson County Airport Authority for 29 years. He enjoyed anything that allowed him to be outdoors.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings: Joseph “Joe” Smith and Rebecca “Sue” Roe. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 69 years: Pauline “Polly” Holmes Smith of Springfield, by his son and daughter-in-law: Marvin L. “Lee” and Pam Smith, III floral squareof Springfield, by his grandson and granddaughter-in-law: Craig and Mallory Smith of Nashville, by his brother and sisters-in-law: Robert H. “Bob” and Pat Smith of McKinney, TX and Elizabeth Smith of Springfield. Mr. Marvin’s first great grandchild will arrive in September of this year and will be his great grandson.

Obituary for Jerry H. Mitchell:

On May 14, 2020 the Lord called another one of His Sons home, Jerry Hawthorn Mitchell. Jerry was born March 30, 1948 to the late Jasper Clyde Mitchell and the late Bertha Mitchell.

Jerry was educated in the Robertson County School System.

Jerry, also known as “Big Daddy” and “Sharp Top.” Jerry was employed by Tates Fabrication and later became his own boss. He became a great cook, preparing great Bar-b-que for many businesses and family outings. He was also a Lawn Doctor, making a sick yard become well, healthy, and beautiful. Just as Jerry changed the position of the meat and the yard, so did God position him to provide and care for his family and friends.

Jerry professed a hope in Christ at the age of 71, at City of Faith International Church under the leadership of Pastor Robert Gardner. Jerry served on the Bus Ministry, traveling to Nashville on Sunday morning to the Mission picking up the men and women. He also was a part of the Culinary Team and Senior Citizen Ministries at City of Faith.

Jerry loved people, he was kind-hearted and loved helping people. He did it all well.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by our precious daughter, Janice Scharkley.

Jerry leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife, Ruby Mitchell; two sons, Jason Mitchell (Michelle) and Terence Woodard (Glenda); three daughters, Brenda Ward (Reginald), Patricia Scharkley and Jameshia Jones; three grandsons, Jason Mitchell, Jr., Koree Woodard and Kyzaiah White; three granddaughters, Jeanette Toliver, Chelsea Dowlin, and ShaKari Sawyers; two great grandchildren, James A Craig, Jr., and Malia Toliver; two sisters, Nina Summers (Gary) and Sherry Payne; one aunt, Alberta Bibb of Louisville, KY; three sisters-in-law, Bobbie Baker (Gary), Sylvia Vaughn and Deidra Mitchell; four brothers-in-law, Abram Payne, Leonard Freeman, Carl Jones and James Jones (Barbara); City of Faith International Church Family and Empowering International Ministry; a host of other family and friends.

Private Services due to COVID-19 were held on Thursday, May 19, 2020 at W. D. Crowder Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Robert Gardner, Eulogy and Interment was in Springfield Memorial Garden Cemetery.

Charlotte Morrow Lee, age 79 of Gallatin, passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2020.

She was a loving, caring and charismatic lady. There was no one she wouldn’t feed or help. She was kind and considerate, and very knowledgeable about almost every topic of conversation. She would always say, “If you’ll just listen to me, I’m trying to learn you something!” Her hobbies were Word Searches, going to auctions (and always ‘suggesting’ a family member come along with her), knitting and tending to her flowers. She also loved to dance and loved to cook. She was a loving Mother, grandmother, and sister; and was known as “Nanny” to everyone.

In addition to her parents, John L. and Doshia Elise Morrow, Charlotte is preceded in death by her husbands, Cecil Rex Lee and Raymond Dalton; her sister, Louella; and a brother, Doug.

She is survived by her son, Thomas (Kimberley Williams) Lee; her daughters, Janice (Michael) Johnston and Lindsey (Alan) Kenyon; brothers, Charlie, Harold, and David; sisters, Patricia and Mary; her grandchildren, Jennifer (Steven) Buhrman, Nicholas Wheeler, Elizabeth and Kimberly Lee, Mitchell Dalton, and Alyssa and Zachiery Farley; and 3 great-grandchildren.

Alice Earhart Anderson, age 93 of Goodlettsville, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2020 at Creekside Center for Rehab and Healing.

A graveside service was held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, May 19th at Springfield Memorial Gardens with Bro. Sellers Crain officiating.

She was born January 21, 1927 in Stewart County to the late Marion Elbert and Annie Lena Long Earhart. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Edward Dean Anderson; sisters, Amy Moore, Helen Smith, Nellie Mantlo; brother, William Earhart and grandson, Christopher Edward Hyde.

She was a homemaker, a faithful Christian and a member of Rivergate Church of Christ. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing, shopping, flowers and was an all around social person.

There was a private family viewing on Friday May 15, 2020 with a private family graveside service following in Greenlawn Cemetery in Adairville, KY. Family members served as pallbearers.

Jerry was born September 14, 1946 in Logan Co., KY to the late J.C and Katherine Hardison Long. His wife, Linda Gayle Long and brother, Norman Brickles also preceded him in death. Jerry was a retired Master Plumber and he loved deer hunting, fishing and riding his Harley Davidson.

Connie Gayle Clinard, 59, of Adairville, KY, passed away on Friday May 8, 2020 at her home.

Her remains were cremated and then buried in Sulphur Spring Cemetery in Franklin, KY.

Connie was born September 25, 1960 in Springfield to the late William Henry and Mary Josephine Callis Armour. She was a former line worker at Electrolux and was of the Baptist faith. Connie’s favorite thing to do was watching TV, and she also enjoyed fishing. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Lynn Edward Clinard, by her twin daughters: Samantha and Amanda Clinard, by her brother: Herbert Wilson Armour, and by her sisters: Jackie Sue Armour and Teresa Armour Keymon.

Obituary for John R. Hilliard:

On May 5, 2020 the Lord called one of his soldiers home, John Raybon Hilliard. John was born September 19, 1954 to Florence M. Hilliard and the late Bonnie L. Hilliard, Sr. in Robertson County, Tennessee.

He attended Robertson County Schools with the Class of 1973.
John professed a hope in Christ at an early age at Bridge Hill Missionary Baptist Church.
In 1972 he entered the United States Naval Academy. Later, John married the late Joanne Hyde and to this union two sons were born, John R. Hilliard, Jr. and Jonathan L. Hilliard.

He was known as “Big John” to many. He loved walking around town and checking on friends in the community. He made sure all his family and close friends received birthday cards or just a note letting them know he was thinking of them.

He was preceded in death by both his sons, John R. Hilliard, Jr. and Jonathan L. Hilliard; brother, Bonnie L. Hilliard, Jr.; granddaughter, Jalynn Hilliard.

Gene Troyce Jackson, age 82, of Cedar Hill, Tennessee, died Monday, May 11, 2020, at his home.

The family held a private memorial service with Father Anthony Lopez officiating.

Mr. Jackson was born on January 8, 1938, in Indian Mound, Tennessee to the late Cyrus Nathan and Dovie Trice Jackson, Sr. He was a retired veteran after 30 years with the U. S. Army Reserves. He was closely connected with all of his high school friends of the Woodlawn Class of 1957, where he played basketball and was very proud of his team. He enjoyed outdoors, fishing, hunting, bowling,running on the track team and was a very avid golfer. He was very involved in youth sports, where he coached and was instrumental in creating St. Bethlehem softball league.

In addition to his parents, he his preceded in death by a daughter, Lynn Jackson Hopper; brothers, infant Cyrus Jackson, Jr., and Herman Jackson.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jackson; son Troy (Beth) Jackson; daughter, Dana (Chip) Reid; sisters, Jewel Seay, Shirley Broadbent; floral squaregrandchildren, Trevor (Bethany) Jackson, Tiffany Jackson, Lauren Reid, Jackson Reid; son-in-law, John Hopper; bonus grandchildren, Jonathan and Justin Hopper; and four bonus great-grandchildren.

She worked as an assembly line worker for Delmet/Osh Kosh before her retirement and was a member of White House Church of God. Mrs. Bear loved gardening, working in her yard and spending time with her grandchildren.

Shawn David Seibert, Sr., age 59 of Hendersonville, TN passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2020.

He was a most wonderful husband and his wife’s best friend. He was an avid golfer and had competed in many local tournaments. Prior to his golfing days he had won many trophies as a tennis player.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Betty Seibert; his parents, Adrian and Nancy Hansing; son, Shawn David Seibert II; daughter, Diedre Grossnickle; stepchildren, Christopher Bush and Shawn Bush; brother, Jay Seibert; and granddaughter, Alexis Bush.

Dorothy Ann Chilton Canter, age 91 of Nashville, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2020 at The Village at Bellvue.

The family received friends on Thursday, May 14th from 11am until 1pm at Austin & Bell Funeral Home Greenbrier. The funeral service followed at 1pm on Thursday, May 14th. Burial was at Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery on Friday, May 15th.

She was born in Russellville, KY on July 31, 1928 to the late Ernest Francis and Elizabeth Mary Alley Chilton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Leslie O. Canter, Jr. and sisters, Janet Barr and Helen Smith.

She was a member of the Neelys Bend Church of Christ and a homemaker. She was a Machine Operator at Dupont. She was a Christian who loved her children and grandchildren, loved camping with a campfire, reading and cooking. She also loved teaching Mothers Day Out and Sunday School classes at Madison Church of Christ.

She is survived by her children, Elizabeth (Richard) Cox, Leslie O. (Wanda) Canter, III, Debra (Cliff) Chandler, Vickie (Scott) Biggs, Karen (Jason) Barnes; sister, Brenda Lyle; grandchildren, Joshua (Bree) Floyd, Megan Floyd, Tiffany (Michael) Wade, Leslie O. Margaret Elizabeth Phillips, age 89, of Greenbrier, TN passed away at her residence on May 8, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 30, 1930 in Nashville, TN the daughter of Hayden Lee Adams and Eula Mae Herald Adams.

Family and friends came together to celebrate her life on Tuesday, May 12, 2020, 1:00pm. There was time to visit with the family from 12:00 pm until the time of the service at 1:00pm. Social distancing was observed. Bro. Jonathan Dedmon was in charge of the service. Final resting place will be Spring Hill Cemetery, Robertson County, Dividing Ridge Road with Derek Martin, Jeff Brown, Elijah Brown, Justin Phillips, Will Brooks and Ethan Brooks serving as pallbearers.

Mrs. Margaret enjoyed working Word Search puzzles, playing Candy Crush on her smart phone, Face Book, watching Wheel of Fortune, Golden Girls, and Gun Smoke. She loved singing, going out to eat, especially Cracker Barrel, and going to her church at Ivy Point Church of Christ where she had been a member since 1963! She was a very personable lady who loved people and always wore a smile on her face.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James John Phillips; sisters, Georgia Belle Gaines, Vera Adams, Mattie Mae Adams; brothers, Vernon Ventress Adams, Gilbert Lee Adams, Julian Lee Adams, Franklin Adams, J. C. Adams; grandsons, Joey Phillips and Steven Dwayne Winfrey.
