Obituary for Gregory Neal “Gregg” Scott

Gregory Neal “Gregg” Scott, 43, of Springfield, passed away on Sunday April 10, 2022, at TriStar NorthCrest Medical Center. Graveside services will be conducted Thursday April 14th at 3:00 p.m. in the Palestine Cemetery with Pastor Ryan Hill officiating. There will be no visitation prior to the graveside service.

Gregg was born September 27, 1978, in Nashville to Kenneth Lowery, Jr., and Kelly Scott. He loved to watch football, especially the Tennessee Titans and the Tennessee Vols. Gregg loved being with his family, especially on each holiday. He was preceded in death by his grandmother who raised him: Carol Ann Lowery, and by his grandfather: Kenneth Lowery, Sr.

Gregg is survived by his father: Kenneth Lowery, Jr., of Madison, by his brother and sister-in-law: Brandon and Emily Lowery of Greenbrier, by his niece: Aspen Lowery, and by his nephews: Emmett and Luke Lowery all of Greenbrier, and by his dear friend and caregiver: Tracey Karnes of Springfield.

Brenda Stark Mott Baldridge age 81 of Rocky Top, TN and formerly of Orlinda, passed from this life April 10, 2022, at Cumberland Care Facility in Lafollette Tennessee. For the last seven years she had resided with her son in Rocky Top.

Graveside services will be conducted at Springfield Memorial Cemetery on Thursday, April 14, 2022 at 11a.m with Dale Swearingen officiating. The family will receive friends following the graveside service.

Brenda was born July 29, 1940 in Orlinda to the late Elmore and Inabell Goostree Stark. She graduated from East Robertson High School in 1958. She loved her family, cooking, animals, and was an avid Tennessee Titians fan. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husbands, Mac Mott and Wayne Baldridge. floral squareShe is survived by her son Terry Mott of Rocky Top Tennessee, and her daughter Pamela Mott of Las Vegas, Nevada. Obituary for Tommy Freeman

Tommy Lloyd “Gravy” Freeman, age 76, of Springfield, passed away Sunday, April 10, 2022 at Vanco Manor in Goodlettsville. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, April 16, 2022 at 2pm in the chapel of the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with Brother Ronnie Green officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Sharon Cemetery with Daryl Freeman, Jonathan Freeman, Jackie Sherrod, Charles Bibee, Timmy Hutton, Charles Hutton, Spencer Hutton and Chad Freeman serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 10am until the hour of service at 2pm.

floral squareMr. Freeman was born September 11, 1945 in Greenbrier to the late Samuel and Ekie Byzet Freeman. He worked as a pipe fitter for the Local 572 Union and was a member of the Cedar Hill Baptist Church. Mr. Freeman loved his family and was very proud of his sons and his grandsons. He was always kind and caring, always ready to help anyone who needed it. He loved to work and was always busy doing something.

In addition to his parents Mr. Freeman is preceded in death by his brothers, Samuel Freeman, Bruce Freeman and John Allen Freeman; and his sisters, Martha Hays and Bettye Pedigo.

Mr. Freeman is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy Taylor Freeman; sons and daughter-in-law, Michael Lloyd and Clisa Freeman, Tommy Allen Freeman and Jeffrey Dale Freeman; brother and sister-in-law, David L. and Dianne Freeman; sister-in-law, Barbara Freeman; and grandchildren, Kyle Branden Freeman and John Michael Freeman. Mr. Freeman is also survived by his good friends and working buddies, Paul Graves and Van McCormack, and his nieces and nephews who will all miss him very much.

Obituary for Lois Elizabeth “Bunnie” Simmons

Lois Elizabeth “Bunnie” Simmons, age 90 of Goodlettsville, TN passed away Saturday, April 9, 2022 at Alive Hospice in Nashville. Her remains are to be cremated and a memorial service held at a later date.

She was born in Havana, Cuba, where her parents were missionaries, on July 9, 1931 to the late Joseph Robert and Maddie Frances McWilliam. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Robert Hampton McWilliam, Joseph Livingston McWilliam and Novella McWilliam.

She was a member of the Ridgetop Seventh Day Adventist Church. She was a Girls Dean at Gem State Academy and various other locations for 27 years. She passionately loved her Lord and family very much. She loved music, piano, reading and cats.

A favorite quote of hers was, “Women and cats are always right, men and dogs better get used to it!” She was a member of a Nazarene Church hand bell choir called the “Ding-a-lings” which she enjoyed very much.

Inez Johnson, age 94 of Ridgetop, passed away April 13, 2022. She was born in Old Hickory, TN on August 31, 1927 to the late William and Mary Mitchell.

She is also preceded in death by her husband, Jim Johnson, and brother Earl Mitchell. She is survived by her sons, Jim (Barbara) Johnson, Jr., Mark (Beverly) Johnson, Martin Johnson, Tracy (Cindy) Johnson, and McCaw (Donna) Johnson; Nine grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

Inez was a registered nurse and worked for many years at Memorial Hospital in Nashville.

Service will take place on Monday April 18 at 12 Noon with Jon Briggs, officiating. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to service time. Mrs. Carney is survived by her brothers and sisters-in-law: Ray and Betty White of Goodlettsville, Jerry and Patsy White of Hendersonville, and by her sister: Wanda Faye Graham of Hendersonville.

Obituary for Lonnie Jewel Whitlow

Lonnie Jewel Whitlow, 69, of Adams, passed away on Monday April 4, 2022, at TriStar NorthCrest Medical Center.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday April 24th at 3:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Sunday April 24th from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Mr. Whitlow was born August 17, 1952, in Chattanooga to the late Alonzo and Myrtle Stultz Whitlow. He was a graduate of Jo Byrns High School Class of 1970, and went on to receive his Bachelor’s, Master’s, and EDS degrees from Austin Peay State University. Mr. Whitlow retired from the Robertson County Board of Education, having taught 23 years at Springfield High School and 7 years at Jo Byrns High School. He was a member of Red River Baptist Church in Adams and the Masonic Lodge 89 in Clarksville. Mr. Whitlow loved coin collecting, raising a vegetable garden, decorating his home for the different seasons of the year, and was always known for wearing his Hawaiian shirts. He owned and operated DJ Lonnie’s Mobile DJ service for over 30 years and was a devoted volunteer with the Tennessee Kid’s Nutrition Backpack Attack Program in Springfield and the Samaritan’s Purse Shoebox program each Christmas.

floral squareMr. Whitlow is survived by his wife of 50 years: Diane Mantlo Whitlow of Adams, by his sisters-in-law and brother-in-law: Greta Stainback of Adams, Brenda Mantlo of Adams, Mike and Mary Alice Callis of Adams, by his dear friends: Kevin and Lisa Ragland of White House, by several nieces and nephews, and by his “kids”, his cats Midnight and Gray.

Obituary for James Martin “Joe” Coats

James Martin “Joe” Coats, age 83, of Greenbrier, TN passed away Saturday, April 9, 2022 at his residence.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2pm Tuesday, April 12, 2022 in the Tyronza Cemetery in Tyronza, AR with Bro. Todd L. Yates officiating. Pallbearers will be Michael Thompson, Carl Thompson, Michael Troupe, Terry Coats, Scott Coats and Jerry Coats.

Mr. Coats was born January 21, 1939 in Tyronza, AR to the late Melvin and Dossie Mae Edwards Coats. Joe was a U.S. Army Veteran, a retired roofer, and enjoyed doing yard work, taking care of his flowers and feeding the birds.

Thomas Cranford, Sr., age 75 of Pleasant View, Tennessee, died Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at Skyline Medical Center.

Funeral services will be conducted at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View at 10:30AM on Tuesday, April 12th, with Bro. Steve Freeman officiating. Burial will be at 1:00PM at Nashville National Cemetery in Madison with Tim Cranford, Jacob Marvel, Michael Marvel, Donnie Cranford, Cary Clary, and Donald Jackson serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, April 11th from 5:00PM until 8:00PM and again on Tuesday from 9:30AM until the hour of service at 10:30AM.

Mr. Cranford was born on September 7, 1946 in Nashville, Tennessee to the late Herbert, Sr. & Shirley Parrish Cranford. He was a retired veteran after 29 years with the U. S. Army serving in the Vietnam war. He loved gardening, had a great love for his dogs & cat , and loved his family dearly. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son, Terry Lee Cranford; brothers, Herbert Cranford, Jr, Wayne Cranford, and Glenn Cranford; and sisters, Sandra Lyons, Gayle Pewitt, and Linda Cruse.

Age 65 of White House passed away Monday, April 4, 2022 at NorthCrest Medical Center. He was born September 11, 1956 in Nashville, TN to Raymond & Dora Lucille Miers Hale. He worked as an insulator for Mid South Insulation Company and was an avid NASCAR fan. Dale Earnhardt, Sr. was his favorite driver.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Raymond Hale. Obituary for J. Adrian Marshall

J. Adrian Marshall, age 68, passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2022, at NHC in Springfield, Tennessee.

Adrian was born on February 3, 1954 in Clarksville, Tennessee, was a talented performer and started a career in broadcasting at WDBL in Springfield at a young age. Adrian graduated from Springfield High School in 1971 where he enjoyed participating in public speaking and plays, thus discovering his passion for the performing arts. He was also extremely passionate about music, song writing, and guitar. His broadcasting career allowed him to work with WMAK, WSM, WDBL radio, and the Tennessee Radio News Network. He performed in several dramatic productions with local and other groups including those in Nashville and Murfreesboro. In later years he volunteered his time playing guitar and singing for the Veterans Administration Hospital patients. He was a Master Mason and a Scottish Rite Freemason in the 32nd Degree.

Adrian is survived by his stepfather, Robert D. Alley (Betty), and his three siblings, Cheryl Alley Moon (Danny), James T. Marshall, III (Anita), and Andrea Alley Fields (Mark). He is preceded in death by his mother, Bettye Rawls Marshall Alley, his father, James Thomas Marshall, II, and his grandparents O.G and Dixie Rawls, James Thomas and Elizabeth Marshall, Elgia and Jessie Lee Alley.

Anthony Michael Pompa, 43, of Springfield and formerly of Baldwinsville, NY, died suddenly on Friday April 1, 2022.

His remains were cremated, and a private celebration of life was held.

Anthony was born April 20, 1978, in Columbus, OH. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing his guitar, movies, golf, Texas Hold’em, video games, and the outdoors. Anthony was preceded in death by his mother: Laura Marcum Howe, by his grandmothers: Georgia Marcum and Beatrice Pompa, by his grandfather: Joseph Pompa, and by his nephew: Bradley Burns.

Mrs. Evans was born April 13, 1954 in Morganfield, KY to the late Edward and Virginia Carolyn Littler Adams. She worked at Holley Carburetor for many years and was of the Christian faith.

In addition to her parents Mrs. Evans is preceded in death by her husband, James Neal Evans, her brother, James Adams, and her granddaughter, Cheri Evans.

Denise Ellen “Deni” Redding Bray, 66, of Greenbrier, passed from this life on Monday March 28, 2022, at her home.

Her remains were cremated, and a private family celebration of Deni’s life will be held.

Deni was born March 15, 1956, in Rantoul, IL to the late James and Patricia Tincher Redding. She had worked as a credit manager. Deni loved bowling, playing golf, spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Obituary for Patricia Binkley

Patricia Jean Binkley, age 81, of Springfield, passed away Friday, December 31, 2021 at NorthCrest Medical Center.

Celebration of Life Services was held Saturday, April 2, 2022; first, at the Springfield First Baptist Church from 12-2pm and then, in the chapel of the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield from 3-5pm. Your story of how you knew Mrs. Binkley are welcomed and encouraged.

Mrs. Binkley was born November 6, 1940 in Wisner, NE to the late Leonard August and Bernadine Meyer Strong. After graduating high school, she graduated from Wayne State College in Nebraska, went to Bellmont, and got her Master’s Degree at Peabody. She was a school teacher for the Robertson County School System for many years until her retirement. Mrs. Binkley was a member of the Springfield First Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher, sang in the choir, and volunteered for everything. She even starred in the movie “Flowers for Fannie”, playing the lead role of Fannie Fairchild to rave reviews. She was great fun, always the life of the party. Known as “Pop” to her grandchildren, she loved her family and friends, and was always ready to have a good time with them.

Age 62 of Cottontown passed away Saturday, April 2, 2022 at Hendersonville Medical Center. She was born April 2, 2022 in Madison, TN to Robert Houston & Patricia Ann Troutt Stone. She was a 1979 graduate of White House High School. She worked as a bookkeeper for Gaylord at the Opryland Hotel and was then employed as a call center rep for QRM. She enjoyed traveling, especially taking mini vacations, and thrift shopping.

Obituary for Jeanette Holt

Mrs. Jeanette Edison Holt, age 98, of Knoxville and formerly of Springfield, passed away Thursday, March 31st at NHC in Knoxville.

Funeral service was held Sunday, April 3rd at 7PM at Buffat Heights Baptist Church in Knoxville with Rev. Dave Thomas officiating.

A graveside service will be held Monday, April 4 at 2PM in the Springfield Memorial Gardens in Springfield.

Mrs. Holt attended schools in Springfield and graduated high school in 1954 from Chilhowee Baptist Academy in Seymour, TN. She married her high school sweetheart, Kendreth V. Holt, in 1941 and in 1954 she became a pastor’s wife when Kendreth entered the ministry.

Mrs. Holt is preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Kendreth V. Holt, her grandson, Danny Brewer, and her parents, Laura and Frank Edison of Springfield.

Obituary for Deborah Renee Blaylock Short

Age 59 of White House passed away Thursday, March 31, 2022 at her home. She was born May 22, 1962 in Nashville, TN to James O. & Catherine Searcy Blaylock. She was a 1980 graduate of White House High School. She had many friends, enjoyed dancing, playing card games and was an avid Titans fan. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren more than anything else. She was the owner of A Able Storage.

She is preceded in death by her brother, James Eric Blaylock. She is survived by her husband of 14-1/2 years, John R. Short, Jr., White House, TN; father, Jim (Olivia) Blaylock, White House, TN; mother, Cathy Blaylock, Goodlettsville, TN; daughter, Katherine Joy Bibbee (Cody) Tollison, Fairview, TN; 3 step-daughters, Elizabeth Nicole Short, Gallatin, TN, Jessica Anne (Peter) Harris, Mount Juliet, TN and Rachel Christine Short, White House, TN; 1 grandchild, Walker James; 5 step-grandchildren, Avery, Aubrey, Rose, Hazel and Cotton.

Interment followed in Hillcrest Cemetery with Jeff Bradly, Steve Brown, Jimmy Beach, Ed Erwin, Kenny Smith and Kevin Nash serving as pallbearers. Visitation with the family was Sunday, April 3, 2022 4-8pm and Monday, April 4, 2022 10am until the hour of the service at the funeral home.

Obituary for Mark Allen Carson Sr.

Mark Allen Carson, Sr, age 68 of Pleasant View, TN, passed away Thursday, March 31, 2022 at The Residence at Alive Hospice in Nashville.

Graveside services were conducted at 11:00AM on Monday, April 4, 2022 in the Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens with Bro. Randy Riggs officiating. Pallbearers were Mark Carson Jr., Scott Carson, Michael Carson and Cameron Carson.

There was no public visitation scheduled.

Mr. Carson was born on May 19, 1953 in Union City, PA to the late George and Bertha Carson. He retired from Bordeaux Hospital Maintenance Department after 40 years of service.

Obituary for Jerry Haywood Binkley

Jerry Haywood Binkley, age 76 of Chapmansboro, Tennessee, died Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at his home.

Funeral services were conducted at Good Springs Free Will Baptist Church in Pleasant View at 1:00PM on Saturday, April 2nd, with Bro. Randy Riggs and Pastor Mike Hollis officiating. Burial followed in Good Springs Cemetery with grandsons Nash Binkley, Max Binkley, and Will Binkley, and nephews Curtis Wheeler, Lee Binkley, and Mike Binkley serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Head, Billy Choate, Felix Tejeda, and two very special friends, Donnie Eley & Kelly Kilgore.

The family received friends at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View on Friday, April 1st from 4:00PM until 8:00PM and again on Saturday at the church from 11:00AM until the hour of service at 1:00PM.

Mr. Binkley was born on January 12th, 1946 in Cheatham County, Tennessee to the late Ira Haywood & Ethel Martin Binkley. He was retired from Lucent Technologies (formerly AT&T) after 34 years of service. Mr. Binkley was a member of Good Springs Free Will Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School and served as a Deacon for many years. His greatest joy was his family especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas, Donald, Paul, Ray, John, & David Binkley.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Nora Binkley; daughter, Lori (Kim) Whitworth; son, Tracey (Beth) Binkley; sisters, Ruth Felts, Marie Wheeler, Janice (Rodney) Ford, and Yvonne Merritt; grandchildren, Jessica (Matt) Price, Emily (Dustin) Allen, Nash Binkley, Max Binkley, and Will Binkley; great-grandchildren, Anna, Lilly, & Isaac Price, and another great-grandchild, Nora Joy Allen, floral squaresoon to be born.

She was born September 27, 1943 in French Camp, CA to Cloyd Garfield & Lillian Wilma Altide Deal. She was a clerical worker for Elk Grove Unified School District in California before her retirement and she was a member of Temple Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Paul Deal. She is survived by her loving husband of 27 years, Ladd Bennett, White House, TTN; sons, Devon (Heidi) Bennett, White House, TN, Sean Moon, North Carolina and Jimmy Thornsberg, California; daughters, Danyelle (David) Anderson, Murfreesboro, TN and Robin Wright, White House, TN; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren.

Age 87 of Goodlettsville passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at his home. He was born August 23, 1934 in Havana, Cuba to Jose Chinique and Amalia Ortega. He worked for Tennessee Uniform, now Cintas, and for Car Quest. Mr. Chinique played baseball for the Nashville Vols at Sulpher Dell and was a pitcher and short stop player for the Minnesota Twins. He loved baseball more than anything.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joyce Caperton Chinique; sons, Osqui Chinique and Ricci (Myria) Chinique; brother Louis Chinique; sister, Delia Chinique.. He is survived by his son, Stephen Chinique, Goodlettsville, TN; daughter-in-law, Myria Rank, Springfield, MO; brothers, Berto (Cuqui) Chinique and Elio Chinique, both of Hialeah, FL; 6 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren.
