Obituary for Angela Chantye’ Turner Boffman

On April 28, 2022 God added another beautiful flower to His garden of love, our dear Angela won the victory and was given the peace she so deserved.

Angela Chantyé Turner Boffman was born September 8, 1963 to the late Hugh Ellis Turner and Betty Jo Thomas in Davidson County.
She was preceded in death by cherished grandparents, Mary “MaMa” Laurine and James Ellis Turner and Ivory “Mom Mae” and Eddie Lee Thomas along with her beloved sister, Shera “Shay” Turner.

Angela, lovingly called “Sista”, professed her faith and hope in Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of the Greater South Baptist Church. Angela served on the Usher Board until her health would not permit. She also worked along side and shared her beautiful testimony through various ministries including the Sisters of Love founded by her late dedicated Aunt Earline Darden and the “My Purpose” Book Club founded by devoted friend, Felecia Mastin. Angela stepped out on faith and founded the social media Christian group, United Daughters of the King, where she would devote her time and effort to encourage and uplift others in the name of the Lord.

Angela successfully graduated from Springfield High School, Class of 1981. She would then go on to earn many certifications in the nursing field along with serving as a dialysis technician with Fresenius Medical Care. She flourished in her career over several years and dedicated herself in taking care of others until her health issues progressed, leading her to an early retirement.
On February 24, 2018 it was the beginning of what seemed like a never ending phone conversation and the rest is history. Match making credit belongs to the late Angelo Pinkney, trusted cousin/brother and dear friend to both. Angela and Michael Boffman of Chicago, IL united in holy matrimony on August 25, 2019. Together the happily married couple blended five children.
She leaves to cherish her memories: devoted husband, Michael Boffman, two daughters, Makisha Turner Wells (Jamie) of Bowling Green, KY, and Kristin Wright (Chris) of Chicago, IL; three sons, Anthony Boffman of Springfield, IL, Tracy D. Cone Jr. of Springfield, TN, and Brian Boffman (Markita) of Chicago, IL; Angela and Michael shared sixteen grandchildren; siblings, James D. Turner (Tammra) of Bowling Green, KY, Michael L., Marilyn, Crystal, Latrice and Austin Turner all of Springfield, TN; devoted aunts, Christine Williams of Springfield TN; Johnnie Buford (James) of Cross Plains TN, Corintia Thomas of Oak Grove, KY, Janice Thomas, Lawanda Pope-Townsend (Ricky) of Springfield, TN; Esther Turner (Michael Smith) of Portland, TN; uncles, James Pope (Knoxville, TN) Harold Gardner and James I. Thomas both of Springfield, TN, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and loved ones. Honorary “Sista” Friends, ***The Fantastic Four*** Elder Amelia D. A special mention of long time friend and God-sister Melodye Davis of White Plains, MD.

Obituary for Johnny Gilstrap

Johnny Wayne Gilstrap, age 78 of Cedar Hill, Tennessee, died Sunday, May 1, 2022 at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Murph’s Country Music Barn at 3336 Winters Road in Cedar Hill at 2:00PM on Wednesday, May 4th, with Dennis Morris conducting. Burial will follow in Bartlett Cemetery. In addition to his two sons, Merle Ellis, Barry Ellis, Lenny Lymann, Dennis Morris, and Trevor Garrison will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at Murph’s Country Music Barn on Wednesday, May 4th, from 12:00 noon until the hour of service at 2:00PM. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Mr. Gilstrap was born on June 9, 1943 in Anderson, South Carolina to the late John Gilstrap & Sue Coggins. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp Reserve and a member of Centerpoint Baptist Church. John was a retired rodeo Clown. The rodeo world lost one of the greatest entertainers of all time. John Gilstrap passed from this earth, but his mark on rodeo and the IPRA will last forever. John was one of the most beloved rodeo clowns we have ever known and his comedy acts are legendary. He had a big heart and was always there to help a friend on the rodeo trail, whether it was help with a few dollars for entry fees or something to eat or some encouraging words when you were down on your luck, John was there for you. He was one of the most decorated rodeo clowns in IPRA history being voted IPRA Clown of the Year many times and also worked the IFR on several occasions. One of the plaques he received for winning Clown of the Year hangs in the IPRA office because when John retired he wanted to share the plaque with others as a way to give back to the organization he loved. One thing I always admired about John was that he never “mailed it in”. I’ve seen John try just as hard to bring a smile to everyone who bought a ticket if it was pouring down rain with 50 people in the seats as he did with 15,000 in a coliseum at a Longhorn Rodeo. Please keep John’s family in your thoughts and prayers. Rest easy old friend and keep ‘em laughing up there at the big rodeo in Heaven and we’ll see you when our ticket is punched.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Cathy Ramey; twin babies, Sherry & Sheila; grandson, Josh Whaley; and sister, Anne Carney.

floral squareSurvivors include his wife of 32 years, Debbie Gilstrap; sons, Kerry (Laurie) Gilstrap and Rooster Gilstrap; brother, Brad (Denise) Gilstrap; sisters, Jane (Leslie) Scoggins and Linda (Tom) Smith; grandchildren, Nichole (Casey) Folsom, Justin Gilstrap, Jaclyn Gilstrap, Joe Gilstrap, and Elizabeth (Gabe) Larkin; and 3 great-grandchildren.
