Obituary for Elsie Brooksher McKinney

Elsie Brooksher McKinney, 90, of Mt. Juliet, passed away on Friday September 9, 2022, at American House Assisted Living in Lebanon.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday September 12th at 2:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Pastor Tony Rogers-Sirten and Pastor Paul Gunn officiating. Interment will follow in the Bellwood Cemetery in Adams with Danny Bourne, Mike Fowler, Randy Brooksher, Bruce Brooksher, Randy Ghee, and Randy Jones serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Thomas Sirten, Tom Tom Sirten, Anthony Sirten, and Christopher Bailey. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. and on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Mrs. McKinney was born August 21, 1932, in Guthrie, KY to the late Joseph Morgan and Mary Myrtle Chandler Brooksher. She was the fifth of nine children, was raised in Adams, TN, and was a graduate of Jo Byrns High School Class of 1951. She married Morton C. McKinney on June 6, 1954. Mrs. McKinney retired from the State of Tennessee Department of Employment Security in 1990, after many years of faithful service. She loved working in her flower garden, was a member of Tusculum Hills Baptist Church, and was a member of Polio Hero’s. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings: J.W., Billy, Virginia, Irene, Dorothy, and Juanita.

Mrs. McKinney is survived by her son: Steven C. McKinney (Mike) of Mt. Juliet, by her sisters: Sue Dempsey of Murfreesboro and Inez Allen of Old Hickory, and by numerous nieces and nephews.

Obituary for Don Sanford Morgan

Don Sanford Morgan, 73, of Greenbrier, passed away on Thursday September 8, 2022, at his home.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday September 11th at 2:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Reverend Steve Shauf and Reverend Kim Moore officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Don was born November 30, 1948, in Franklin, KY, to the late John Sanford “J.S.” and Nancy Freedle Morgan. He was a graduate of Franklin Simpson High School Class of 1966 and went on to attend Austin Peay State University from 1966 to 1969. Don received his CFP degree from Phoenix University in 1989, and was employed as CFP IDS Inc., American Express, and Ameriprise Financial from 1989 until 2015. He was the owner of Lad & Dad Men’s Store from 1973 to 2005. Don was a member and Past Master of Western Star Lodge #9 for 43 years and was a member of Mt. Sharon Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed cooking and watching University of Kentucky basketball and football. Don loved the Lord, his family, his dog Murphy, and his friends.

Don is survived by his wife and soulmate: Janice Binkley Morgan of Greenbrier, by his daughter: Ashley Morgan Coffee, by “the Boys” Brandon Stagner and Daniel Stagner and wife Kelsey, by his grandchildren: Easton, Dawson, Ava, Avery, Grace, Annabelle, and sweet Leah who will arrive in December, by his loving sister: Wilma Jean Gentry of Franklin, KY, by his nephews: David Gentry and John Gentry and wife Kathi, by the mother of his children and dear friend: Sandye Torphy of Mt. Juliet, by “Murphy”, and by many cousins and loving friends.

Obituary for Jacqueline Clougherty

On Saturday, September 10, 2022, Jacqueline Renee Clougherty passed away at age 61.

The beloved mother and adored grandmother lived a wonderful life full of love, adventure, and friendship. She was a global marketing manager before retiring young to spend her life traveling and being with her family. From visiting Mt. Everest to relaxing on the beach in Florida, she led an extraordinary life. While some floral squareremember her as their crazy neighbor, we will remember her as our trusted advisor and crazy mother.

She is survived by her daughter, Rachel Elaine Bloom; son, Jason Allen Rodgers; and grandchildren, Connar, Gwen, and Liam Rodgers.

William Robert Pryor “Bill”, age 80 of Chapmansboro, Tennessee, died Saturday, September 10, 2022 at Tennova Healthcare in Clarksville.

Funeral services will be conducted at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View at 11:00AM on Saturday, September 17th, with Bro. Randy Riggs officiating. Burial will follow in EverRest of Cheatham with military honors.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, September 16th from 5:00PM until 7:00PM and again on Saturday from 10:00AM until the hour of service at 11:00AM.

Mr. Pryor was born on November 21, 1941 in Manhattan, New York to the late Francis & Mabel Troy Pryor. He was a retired carpenter with over 34 years with the New York Board of Education. Mr. Pryor was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Vietnam War. He was of the Episcopalian faith.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Pryor; brother, Raymond Pryor; sisters, Dorothy Cullen, floral squareVeronica Richmond, Louise Pryor; and his son, John’s fiancée, Amanda Felts.

Survivors include his sons, Donald (Alex) Pryor and John Pryor; grandchildren, Ace Pryor, Brook Lynn Pryor, Grace Felts, and Joshua (Sabrina) Milliken; and great-grandson, Miles Milliken.

Juanita Lemmons Wix, age 82, of Springfield, passed away Friday, September 9, 2022 at Alive Hospice in Nashville. Funeral services will be conducted at 3pm Tuesday, September 13, 2022 in the chapel of Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with Bro. Jeff Cripps officiating. Following the services, it was Mrs. Wix wishes to be cremated.

The family will receive friends from 11am until time of service at 3pm Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Wix was born June 24, 1940 in Robertson County to the late Lanny Hubert “Dooley” and Willie Mae Whiting Lemmons.

In addition to her parents, Juanita was preceded in death by a son, James Kenneth Wix; a brother, Lawrence Lemmons; and 5 half siblings.

Mrs. Wix is survived by her husband, James L. Wix; sons, Michael Wayne (Patricia) Wix and David G. Wix; 8 grandchildren, Fred Wix, Amanda Scott, Ashley Wix, Jennifer Wix, Jamie Wix, Holly Wix Teal, Megan Wix and Kyle Wix; 13 great grandchildren; 1 great great floral squaregrandson; brothers, Robert Lee “Pete” Lemmons, Loy Wayne Lemmons and Gary Lemmons; and a half brother, Paul Walker.

Walter Steve Poole, age 66, of Springfield, passed away Thursday, September 8, 2022 at his home. Mr. Poole was born February 12, 1956 in Springfield to the late Walter Edward and Molly Marie Gibbs Poole. He served at the HOPE Center for many years and knew the Bible very well. He had a great heart and loved everyone.

Obituary for Joyce Coleman

Joyce Spicer Coleman, age 85, of Springfield, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 after a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at 11am at the Main Street Church of Christ in Springfield. Burial will follow at 3pm in the Totty’s Bend Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the church on Monday, September 12, 2022 from 4-8pm and again on Tuesday from 10am until the hour of service at 11am.

Mrs. Coleman was born June 16, 1937 in Bon Aqua, TN to the late A.D. and Pauline Spicer. She was a graduate of Hickman County High School and Austin Peay State University. She taught kindergarten in Maury County and Robertson County, retiring after 25 years of service. She was a member of Main Street Church of Christ where she worked at Mom’s Day Out and taught the nursery class during Sunday School. Mrs. Coleman loved traveling but her favorite place was at home surrounded by her family. She enjoyed shopping, cooking, and walking miles on the YMCA track.

Born in Smyrna and raised in Nashville, he and his wife of 49 years, Vickie Singer Lane, relocated to Cross Plains.

Proceeded in death by his father Charles Lane, Terry is survived by his wife, Vickie Lane, and his 3 children Angie (Nathaniel) Scates of Bon Aqua, Wesley (Lisa) Lane of White House, and Misty (Bryon) Keen of Gainesboro. Along with his wife and children Terry is also survived by his mother, Edna Mayton, sister Debbie Brown and brothers Jim Mayton and Bodie Lane; as well as 7 grandchildren Allison, Matthew, Garrett, Baylie, Kaylea, Bryson, and Charlotte, and 1 great granddaughter, Marceline.

Duane Jay Head, age 56, of Cedar Hill, passed away Friday, September 2, 2022 at HATS Group Home in Springfield. Graveside services will be held Saturday, September 24, 2022 at 2pm in the Springfield Memorial Gardens with Brother David Bradley officiating. Burial will follow with Scott Elder, Cody Elder, Carson Elder, Roy Osborne, Barry Barnett and Dalton Barnett serving as pallbearers. No visitation will be held prior to the graveside service.

Mr. Head was born July 4, 1966 in Nashville to the late Max and Marilyn Gower Head. He loved country music, gospel hymns, U.T. football and basketball, the TN Titans, and going to HATS. Mr. Head was also a member of the New Chapel United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents Mr. Head is preceded in death by his sister, Marcia Head, brother, Kevin Head, grandparents, Mary Lou and J.L. Head, Nettie and Gailor Gower, and his step-brother, Mickey Elder.

Obituary for Oliver Neil Williams

Age 82 of Springfield, TN passed away Sunday, September 4, 2022 at his home. He was born June 25, 1940 in Hartsville, TN to Clarence Ernest & Ivorene Cleveland West Williams. He worked as a computer technician for Unisys until his retirement. Neil proudly served his country in the U.S. Marines and was a member of McFerrin Missionary Baptist Church and Masonic Lodge #700. He enjoyed attending antique car shows and driving antique cars in parades. He enjoyed camping and traveling, having driven both to Alaska and to Mexico. Neil was known all around for raising emus for 16 years following his retirement.

He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Lois Williams, Springfield, TN; daughters, Debbie (Veit) Spero, Bethpage, TN and Cindy (Tony) McDonald, Springfield, TN; sister, Gale (Jimmy) Bamman, Cross Plains, TN; 5 grandchildren, Frankie (Lauren) Spero, Matt (Ivy) McDonald, Ellen (Alexis) Baez, Carrie (Nate) Usher and Casey (Wayne) Summers; 10 great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Sutherland, Whit, Abner, Hoke, Johnny, Morgan, Jackson, Sully and Hattie.

Obituary for Mayron Huddleston

Mayron Frances Crutcher Huddleston passed away peacefully at home on September 2, 2022. She was 92 years old. Mayron, a daughter of William Sanders Crutcher and Lemma Hinkle Crutcher, was one of 10 children born on the pre-Civil War family farm at Coopertown, Tennessee. She cherished the farm all her life.

Mayron lived a full life. She attended George Peabody College in Nashville. She and her husband, Elwyn Huddleston, met at college and married in 1950. They had two children, Carrie Huddleston Nobles, and Robert Claiborne Huddleston, II, who died in infancy. She and Elwyn were great travelers, visiting four continents and spending five years in Peru working for an American mining company.

Mayron was an accomplished artist. The family home is filled with her paintings in oil, acrylics, watercolor and charcoal. She also sewed and crocheted beautifully. A lifelong community volunteer, Mayron was active for decades in the Garden Club of America, where she was a senior certified National Judge. Mayron almost always brought home the blue ribbon from the Garden Club’s flower shows. For many years she also served on the Board of the Friends of the Brentwood Library.

Mayron is survived by her husband and her daughter, her sister-in-law, Ann Collins Crutcher, her brother, Richard Crutcher and his wife, Shannon, and a host of nieces and nephews.

James Arthur Dodge, age 81, of Springfield, passed away Thursday, September 1, 2022 at Red Cedar Glen in Hendersonville.

In accordance with his wishes Mr. Dodge’s remains were cremated and no services are planned at this time.

Mr. Dodge was born September 9, 1940 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Mr. Llewellyn Dodge and Mrs. Margaret Lynch Dodge. He was the owner and operator of a catering business and café.

In addition to his father, Mr. Dodge is preceded in death by his wife Gail Ann Vitters Dodge.

Obituary for Homer Felts, Jr.

Homer Felts, Jr., age 85, of Springfield, passed away Thursday, September 1, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at 1pm at the Cross Roads Baptist Church with Brother Rick Edwards, Brother David Evans and Brother Jon Briggs officiating. Burial followed in the Springfield Memorial Gardens with Allen Thomas, Adam Pike, Gayland Hester, B.J. Felts, Christian Thomas and Dallas Wilson serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Charlie Stokes, Jerry McCreary, Jerry Boyte, Don Dungan and Howard Bradley.

Visitation was held at Cross Roads Baptist Church on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 from 4-8pm and again on Wednesday at the church from 10am until the hour of service at 1pm.

Mr. Felts was born February 5, 1937 in Cedar Hill to the late Homer and Nellie Pursley Felts, Sr. He was well-known in Springfield and held many jobs in his lifetime, including Genesco, Wilson Sporting Goods, One Hour Martinizing, Jewel T Company, Life & Casualty Insurance Company, Summers Motor Company and American General Insurance Company. Mr. Felts held other positions in the community such as the Music Director at North Springfield Baptist Church and the Music Director at Cross Roads Baptist Church for 22 years where he was a member. He was a member of the gospel quartet, The Mellowtones, since he was 14 years old. When they began, the group was too young to drive so they would need to hitch-hike to sing at engagements.

In addition to his parents Mr. Felts is preceded in death by his wife, Mary McIntosh Felts, whom he married on July 13, 1956; his brothers, Harold Felts and Ronnie Felts; and his sisters, Ruby Larmon, Margie Sawyers and Frances Moon.

Obituary for Randy Biggerstaff

George Randall Biggerstaff “Randy”, age 69 of Clarksville, Tennessee, died Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at his home.

His remains were cremated and no services are planned at this time.

Mr. Biggerstaff was born on October 15, 1952 in Nashville, Tennessee, to Wilma Jean Shores Fleming and the late George Wilbur Biggerstaff. He was a carpenter by trade.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his daughter, Shelley Spann Haynes; brothers, Barry (Debbie) Gibbs and Michael Pardue; sister, Sandy (Denny) Daugherty; granddaughters, Tuesday Dwyer and Autumn Haynes; and grandson, Slayden Pope.

Obituary for Cindy Lou Myers

Cindy Myers, the best wife, mother, grandmother, friend and family member that we know, passed away on August 29, 2022 with her family by her side.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Robert (Bob) Myers, her children, Stacia Blevins (Bill), Robert Myers, Allison Ward (Danny), Megan Myers (Heath), and her grandchildren, Dakota, Camaron, Zoe, Tyler, Sydney, and Eisley. Cindy was the most caring and loving woman to everyone from her family to her coworkers and floral squareher neighbors. Her smile would light up a room and she will be missed forever but will remain in our hearts.

Obituary for Harold Head

Harold Dillard Head, age 75, of Cedar Hill, passed away Sunday, August 28, 2022 at The Waters of Springfield.

Funeral services were held Friday, September 2, 2022 at 1pm at the Grace Baptist Church with Dr. Steve Freeman and Dr. Jason Wilkerson officiating. Burial followed in the Springfield Memorial Gardens with Joshua Holt, Jesse Holt, Jacob Holt, Steven Head, Corey Head, Jason Head, Jacob Head, and Lake Head serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Blane Minnis, Jordan Head, Randy Justice and Donald Hester.

Visitation was held on Thursday, September 1, 2022 at the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield from 4-8pm and on Friday at the church from 11am until the hour of service at 1pm.

Mr. Head was born August 8, 1947 in Springfield to the late Ralph and Francis Clinard Head. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Korea, was a tobacco farmer, member of Grace Baptist Church, and retired from the Springfield Water Wastewater Department.

Mr. Head is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Sara Minnis Head; sons and daughters-in-law, Rusty and Kathy Holt of Adams and Timothy and Emily Head of Springfield; daughter, Cynthia “Princess” Estep of Dover; brothers and sisters-in-law, Fred and Sandy Head of Greenbrier, Jerry and Donna Head of Springfield floral squareand Ernie and Faye Head of Cedar Hill; sister and brother-in-law, Josie and Will Hicks of Springfield; grandchildren, Joshua Holt, Jesse Holt, Jacob Holt, Blane Minnis, Steven Head, and Jordan Head; and great-grandchildren, Jackson Holt and Harper Holt.

Obituary for Paul David Wolfert

Paul David Wolfert, age 72, of Springfield, passed away Sunday, August 28, 2022 at TriStar Centennial Medical Center in Nashville.

Funeral services were conducted at 11:00am Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at the Coopertown Church of Christ with Bro. Bob Wolfert, Bro. Jeff Smith, Bro. Adam Callis and Bro. Travis Pigg officiating. Burial followed in the Coopertown Church of Christ Cemetery with Jared Head, Joshua Head, Joseph Hunter, Justin Hunter, Casey Gillespie and Randy Head serving as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers were Bruce Head, Kyle Henley, Tim Head, Matthew Wolfert and Bill Wolfert.

The family received friends from 10:00am until time of service at 11:00am Wednesday at the church.

Paul was born February 20, 1950 in Pittsburg, PA to the late Ralph and Katie Cantrell Wolfert, but moved to Indiana during his early childhood. He made his way to Nashville where he enrolled in David Lipscomb College. Mr. Wolfert was employed as a Security Guard at David Lipscomb for 10 years and then took a job as a Security Officer with Vanderbilt University Police. He loved meeting people and helping them find their way around the Medical Center campus. Medical reasons caused him to take an early retirement after 10 years of service at Vanderbilt.

Paul met the love of his life, Linda, while at David Lipscomb College. They have lived in both Nashville and Springfield during their 40 year marriage. He enjoyed reading books of all kinds and was an avid sports fan, especially Vanderbilt baseball. He can be remembered as always having a smile, even on the difficult days he floral squareexperienced throughout many illnesses. Paul was a member of the Coopertown Church of Christ.

Mr. Wolfert is survived by his loving wife, Linda Wolfert; brothers, Bob (Sue) Wolfert and Bill Wolfert; niece, Jamie Bomnskie; and nephews, Travis Pigg, Matthew Wolfert, Joseph Hunter, Justin Hunter, Jared Head, Joshua Head, Kyle Henley and Casey Gillespie.
