Kayaker Rescued On The Red River Saturday

ROBERTSON COUNTY, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A kayaker is safe this afternoon after her kayak flipped on the Red River Saturday afternoon.

Around 12:30 PM the Robertson County Emergency Management Agency, (EMA) with North Robertson Fire and Rescue, and Robertson County EMS were dispatched to a water rescue in the area of Hwy 161 and Buzzard Creek on the Red River.

While en route crews were advised that a kayaker had flipped and was trapped in a tree,” said Robertson County EMA Deputy Director Blake Pierce. “Robertson 911 was able to work with callers to get an accurate location to aid responders in locating the incident. Access was made off of Smith Rd. near the Springfield water plant and the subject was located. MAP The kayaker was wearing a life jacket which definitely helped her during the incident.”

Once on the scene, crews prepared to put a rescuer in the water to rescue the kayaker. Robertson County EMA utilized a rescue swimmer. Rope equipment was utilized to bring the rescuer and kayaker safely ashore. The operation was successful and we are happy to report there are no injuries to anyone involved. Robertson EMA would like to extend our thanks to North Robertson Fire and Rescue, Robertson EMS, and bystanders for their assistance!
