Kayakers, Dog Rescued From Red River After Darkness Leaves Group Stranded

ADAMS, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Emergency crews responded to the Red River near Adams Thursday night after two kayakers and their dog became stranded after dark, the first call coming into 911 at 8:59 pm.

Adams Fire Chief Donovan Tucker told Smokey Barn News the incident began when a male, a female, and their dog found themselves unable to continue navigating the river after darkness fell. The situation was further complicated when the pair flipped their kayaks and lost one set of paddles.

After locating the stranded group, they were safely brought to shore. Chief Tucker said the kayakers did not have flashlights, making it impossible to safely continue down the river once nightfall set in.

The rescue took place on the Red River. Fortunately, all three occupants were located and brought to safety without injury. Adams Fire later confirmed that all individuals were accounted for and that crews had returned to service.

Officials remind anyone planning a river outing to carry proper safety equipment, including lighting, communication devices, and other essentials, especially when there is a possibility of being on the water after sunset.
