Large Axiom Industrial Building Collapses In Portland

The Axiom Impressions facility located at 106 Western Dr, Portland, TN is a total loss after the the roof collapsed under the weight of snow, ice and water.   map link. According to Axiom’s website, the facility is about 100,000 square feet. Officials on the scene indicated there were employees inside the building at the time of the collapse but they all managed to get out safely.

According to officials, the collapse did trigger a fire in the office portion of the facility but Portland firefighters were able to extinguish it quickly.

The weather has turned tons of snow and ice into a big sponge for all the rain we are getting today. The weight accumulating up on rooftops (especially flat roofs) is (and will be) very high until all the ice and snow melts.

This is the second large building to collapse under the weight of snow and ice. Yesterday a church in Springfield collapsed. There was no one inside the structure at the time the roof caved in and no injuries were reported. Full report..
