Law Enforcement Scours Springfield Greenway/Creek After Human Leg Discovery — Nothing More Found
SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – On Monday, July 8, investigators returned to Sulphur Creek to continue searching the area where a decomposed human leg was discovered last week along the Springfield Greenway near the Robertson County Fairgrounds. Despite extensive search efforts by Springfield Police and the Robertson County Emergency Management Agency, no additional remains or related evidence were found during Monday’s search.
The investigation began on July 4 after a passerby spotted what appeared to be human remains in the water near the Memorial Boulevard bridge. The initial 911 call came in at 12:37 PM, prompting a swift response from multiple agencies.

Authorities confirmed that the body part was a leg and that it appeared to have been in the water for some time. That detail opened the possibility that the remains could have traveled from farther upstream, potentially complicating the investigation.
The Springfield Police Department is leading the case, with support from Robertson County EMS, EMA, and the Springfield Fire Department.
As only part of the body has been recovered, identification efforts now rely on forensic examination. Investigators will likely check for any surgical implants, injuries, or unique features. If those yield no immediate results, DNA testing will follow. That process, involving comparison with missing persons databases or familial DNA searches, could take weeks or even months, depending on lab turnaround times.
As of now, the identity of the individual and how the limb ended up in the creek remain unknown.
