Local Man Hit -Critical After Exiting Vehicle Following Crash

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A relatively minor two-car crash took a turn for the worse after one of the drivers got out of his vehicle and was struck by a passing car.

The crash occurred on Memorial Blvd around 5:15 pm Monday evening just feet from Outlaw Performance. LOCATION OF CRASH

According to Robertson County EMA, the initial crash involved two vehicles and was not serious. Following the crash, one of the drivers (a male estimated to be in his 40s), got out of his vehicle to check on the other driver. Though we are still waiting on the official report from Springfield Police, reportedly- the gentleman was exiting his vehicle when he was struck by a passing car, striking him and his car door simultaneously.

The gentleman was alert and talking after the accident but in a great deal of pain, officials said. He was transported to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville in critical condition.

No other injuries were reported. Officials said the accident occurred just as this evening’s weather was making its way into Springfield and the area was not well-lit where the accident occurred.  The driver of the vehicle that struck the gentleman immediately pulled over after the accident.

Officials say the safest thing to do following a crash, especially on a busy roadway, interstate, or after dark, is to stay in your vehicle until authorities arrive.

Smokey Barn News will work throughout the evening and tomorrow to get updates on the man’s condition.
