Local Students Complete NorthCrest’s 2014 SHIP Program

NorthCrest Medical Center is proud to announce the completion of the 2014 Student Healthcare Internship Program (SHIP).

NorthCrest list services ad 300The Student Healthcare Internship Program (S.H.I.P.) offered by NorthCrest Medical Center offers rising high school students (ages 14-17) the opportunity to gain relevant healthcare exposure and marketable job skills, and also provides them an “anchor” on which to base future healthcare education. High school internship programs are the first line of recruitment in a long-range plan to ease the critical shortage of healthcare workers.

S.H.I.P. is a five-week program which allows rotations in various clinical departments. Students are exposed to healthcare occupations and are allowed to learn the intricate daily operations of their community medical facility. Students are provided orientation to the facility as well as departmental tours & speakers. Participants are assigned to an area based on interest & availability, but rotate to other areas to maximize exposure. Assigned mentors will direct students daily work routine and facilitate on-the-job learning activities. By job shadowing professionals, students learn first-hand the commitment & preparation necessary to deliver quality care.

This year NorthCrest had participants from various local high schools such as; East Robertson High School, Greenbrier High School, Jo Byrns High School, South Haven Christian School, Springfield High School, Sycamore High School, and White House High School.
