 Mackenzie Gibson 22 Of Springfield Dies Of a Gunshot Wound

Smokey has learned that Mackenzie Gibson 22 Of Springfield died at Vanderbilt Medical Center around 10PM Monday evening after being shot in the stomach at her home Monday evening

around 6:30PM at 718 Shelby Lynn Drive in Springfield, TN.Upon arrival officers found Mackenzie A Gibson suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Robertson County EMS responded to the scene and Mackenzie was transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center in serious condition via ground. At approximately 10:15 PM Monday evening 11/26/2012 the Springfield police were notified that she succumbed to her wounds and died.

An initial investigation determined that a physical altercation took place between Mackenzie A Gibson and her step father Thomas L Bunn, both living at 718 Shelby Lynn Drive. The conflict escalated to include weapons including a knife, baseball bat and a handgun. During the altercation Mr Bunn fired one shot from the handgun striking Gibson in the abdomen. According to police, at the time of the shooting Gibson was holding a knife.

According to Springfield Police Chief David Thompson there has been no arrest and no charges have been filed at this time. The case is currently under investigation and the results will be presented to the District Attorney’s Office.

According to her brother Anthony Driccus Dowlin and his wife Karlisha as well as friends Jakemia Kennedy, Latonya “Winkee” Lee and Mike Edgin; Mackenzie was a fun friendly “life of the party” kind of person who loved music and sports.
