Man Dies In Portland Home Fire
PORTLAND, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A home fire in Portland has claimed the life of one person, an elderly gentleman, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The home is located in the 5900 block of Hwy 31 W, which sits in the upper left corner of Sumner County near the Robertson/Sumner County border, just outside Mitchell. MAP The first call came in to 911 around 5:30 pm.
Initially, the Portland Fire Department and the Highland Volunteer Fire Dept. responded. Due to limited water access, the Cross Plains Fire Department and the Orlinda Fire Department were called in to shuttle water to the fire.
As far as the cause of the fire, the Highland Volunteer Fire Dept is the lead agency and we’re told that the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation. As soon as they are prepared to release more information, we will bring it to you.
