Ian Dakota Jarrett, 30, received the sentence following his August conviction after a three-day jury trial on multiple charges involving the sexual abuse and exploitation of a child.

The case began in November 2024 when a 10-year-old girl disclosed the alleged abuse to a trusted adult, who contacted the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services. An investigation involving the Millersville Police Department followed. Jarrett was subsequently indicted by a Sumner County grand jury in January 2025.

According to information released by the District Attorney’s Office, the victim reported that Jarrett began grooming her when she was 8 years old by showing her pornography on his cellphone. Authorities said the conduct escalated over the following months and years to inappropriate touching and other sexual contact. The child ultimately disclosed the abuse after experiencing emotional effects associated with it.

Criminal Court Judge Dee David Gay sentenced Jarrett to 98 years in the Tennessee Department of Correction, with no possibility of probation, parole or other early release. Assistant District Attorneys Nathan Nichols and Tara Wyllie argued for an effective life sentence during the sentencing hearing.
