Anna “Joyce” Anderson
Dec 5, 1936 — Jun 23, 2026
Anna Joyce Anderson, lovingly known as Joyce, passed away peacefully at her home in Portland, Tennessee, on June 23, 2026. Born Anna Joyce Bumbalough on December 5, 1936, in Sparta, Tennessee, she was a beloved presence whose impact touched all who knew her.
Throughout her life, Joyce exemplified kindness, generosity, and a nurturing spirit. She and her husband owned and operated a ranch, dedicating themselves to the care and raising of racehorses. Their passion and commitment saw them at one point tending to nearly 120 horses, demonstrating not only hard work but also a deep love for animals and the rewarding challenges of farm life.
Outside of her professional endeavors, Joyce was a woman of many interests and joys. An avid sports enthusiast, she delighted in following various sports, counted herself as a devoted Michael Jordan fan, and rarely missed a Tennessee Titans football game. She recently found herself questioning what to watch next after March Madness ended. Her enthusiasm for athletic pursuits extended back to her youth, where she enjoyed rollerskating—a pastime with special significance, as it was at a local roller skating rink that she met her future husband.
Joyce’s sense of style and love of shopping were well known among her friends and family. She expressed herself through fashion and always enjoyed the experience of finding something new, embodying confidence and grace in her appearance.
The heart of Joyce’s life was her family, which she regarded as her proudest accomplishment. Her daughters remember the fresh cookies she would lovingly prepare for them each afternoon after school. Her loving and giving nature created lasting memories and deep bonds within her family. Joyce’s ability to live in the moment, maintain a laid-back demeanor, and offer unwavering support demonstrated her capacity to nurture those around her, providing a model of emotional generosity that uplifted all who were fortunate to know her.
Anna Joyce Anderson is preceded in death by her parents Herbert and Lela Bumbalough, her loving husband of over six decades Roger Anderson, and her siblings Wilma Jean Dingle, Nelda Kolentus, Brenda Kelley, Jim Bumbalough, and Mike Bumbalough. She is survived by her daughters Teresa Najar and Kim Bush, her grandchildren Travis Ellis, Jessica Najar (Nick Dillard), Justin Bush, Josh Bush (Hanna), and Kyle Bush. She is also survived by her great grandchildren Holland Bush and Joslin Bush, many nieces and nephews, and her fur babies, Champ and Teddy, the Shih Tzu dogs.

Peggy (Riggins) Mayes
June 21, 1936 ~ June 22, 2026
90 Years Old
Peggy Mayes departed this life Monday, June 22, 2026. Born June 21, 1936, in Robertson County, Tennessee to the late Barbara Dozier Riggins Trogdon, she was the eldest of three children. After graduating from Springfield High School in 1954, Peggy attended St. Thomas School of Nursing – graduating in 1957, and on August 16, 1957, married the love of her life, Thomas “Tommy” Mayes, the beginning of a love story that would continue to unfold and impact the world for the next 60 years and beyond. In December 1957, she began a 44-year career in Public Health Nursing, working as a Registered Nurse at the Robertson County Health Department, and serving for a short time as the Supervisor of TB Control at the State of Tennessee Mid-Cumberland Regional Office. She retired from the Health Department in 2001.
She was an active member of Greenbrier United Methodist Church for nearly 70 years, and was a fixture at the GUMC United Methodist Women’s Group, a Founding Member of the GUMC JOY group, a leader of the prayer shawl ministry, and active in Sunday School, Bible Studies, delivering Church Bulletins and Meals to Shut-Ins, and volunteering during Vacation Bible School. She enjoyed spending time with her Friday coffee and donut group, her high school friends, and her retired work friends from the Robertson County Health Department.
Peggy’s greatest pride and joy, though, was her family. She poured into Margaret Ann and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who she loved spending time with more than anything else. From family beach trips to Christmas Parties to any number of school performances, sporting events, and recitals, she was always there – beaming with pride. She never ended a conversation without reminding them of how proud she was of them. “Maw Maw”, as she is affectionately known by her family, was one of a kind – she never wanted to be the center of attention but was always ready to brag on her family and their latest accomplishment, no matter how big or small. She was the very definition of a “good and faithful servant”, and she never met a stranger. She never judged a book by its cover and could always be counted on to provide an uplifting word. The only thing better than her chess pie was the hugs and love she gave to everyone around her. She had a way of making you feel like you could take on any challenge, no matter how difficult. There truly will never be another like her, and everyone who had the honor of knowing her is better for it.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas “Tommy” Mayes, Mother Barbara Dozier Riggins Trogdon, brother, Leonard Ewing “Bubbie” Riggins, sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Dozier Riggins Gamble and nephew Clay Riggins. Tim was born October 24, 1958, in Springfield, TN, to the late Ammon and Dorothy Jean Johnson. He received his BA in Political Science from Lipscomb University in 1981 and graduated from Vanderbilt University Law School in 1985.
In addition to his parents, Tim was preceded in death by his brother, Steve Johnson; sister-in-law, Betsy Brown; and his much-loved Frenchies, Barney, Abby, Ben Graham, and Astrid. Tim and Kim shared a rare and enduring love, built on unwavering support and deep devotion. They met at Morgan Keegan & Co. in Memphis. Tim was an equity guy and Kim was a bond girl, and from that first connection grew a partnership that would shape the rest of their lives. Together they built a home in Nashville and a marriage marked by deep devotion, laughter, and unwavering support. Through every season of life, Tim and Kim stood side by side, each other’s anchor, confidant, and greatest champion. Their love was extraordinary and enduring.
Tim approached life with curiosity, creativity, and a sense of fun, playing as a “one-man band” as a child. As an uncle, he became famous for finding the most unique toys and games, ensuring his three nieces eagerly anticipated every family gathering. At age 40, Tim surprised many by retiring from finance to become a successful dairy farmer. When that chapter was complete, he returned to finance, carrying with him the same adventurous spirit, proving that his curiosity and drive never waned.
From the start of his professional life, Tim accumulated accomplishments at an impressive pace. He worked for NYSE member firms in several positions, including manager of arbitrage trading. Tim specialized in debt, convertible and risk arbitrage analysis, and trading for the firm’s principal account.
