One In Custody – Report Of A Gun Sends Franklin KY School On Lockdown
FRANKLIN, KENTUCKY (Smokey Barn News) – Franklin-Simpson Middle School and High School was placed on lockdown today after a report of a “male getting out of a car and it was reported he had a gun.”
According to the Simpson County Sheriff’s Office, one person was taken into custody but there is no word if a gun was retrieved. Officials say the individual was taken into custody on Cherry Street which is located adjacent to the school. MAP
The Sheriff’s office stressed the schools was quickly placed on lockdown and that no one was injured. Law enforcement responded very quickly and the Schools were searched.

Simpson County Sheriff’s Office:
Franklin-Simpson High School (FSHS) received a report of a male subject with a firearm spotted on the high school campus grounds. The middle and high school were both immediately placed on lockdown as the Simpson County Sheriff’s Office, Franklin Police Department and Kentucky State Police responded. The male subject was quickly taken into custody on Cherry Street. All law enforcement agencies performed a walk-through inspection of the middle school, high school and west campus to ensure the safety of all students and staff. These facilities have been cleared and the lockdown has been lifted. There will be increased presence of law enforcement today during school dismissal. The Franklin Police Department will be investigating the incident.

Simpson Co. Schools: Franklin-Simpson High School (FSHS) received a report that there was a young male getting out of a car and it was reported he had a gun. FSHS responded with a lockdown, SRO’s were on site and local law enforcement were on the scene within one minute. The male was taken into custody on Cherry Street. The Simpson Co. Sheriff’s Department, Franklin Police Department, and Kentucky State Police have done a complete walk-through in both buildings(FSHS and FSMS) to ensure the safety of students and staff while we remained on lockdown. The lockdown has since been lifted and we will return to normal activity. Law enforcement will remain on site as a precaution to our dismissal today from school. I want to thank our staff at FSHS for responding and implementing the safety protocols that we have in place as well as FSMS on the same campus. When we have an event like this we communicate with all our schools to proceed with lockdown procedures. The safety of our students and staff is our top priority in SCS.
