Partial Building Collapse Of Church On Main St Slows Traffic In Springfield

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A partial building collapse overnight in Springfield is restricting traffic on Main St in the city’s historic district.

The building is located on Main St near 8th Ave. MAP The area will likely be taped off until engineers can assess the danger of further collapse. The building is currently home to Iglesia Christian Church.

The collapse, likely triggered by last night’s heavy winds, brought the upper front facade of the building down onto the sidewalk.

The sidewalk under the collapse is part of the city’s Greenway which will likely be closed until engineers can fully assess the damage. According to the building’s owner, the damage does not appear to extend inside the structure but engineers are still investigating. Repair work may begin as early as tomorrow, the owner said.

No injuries were reported.

Officer Martin with the Springfield Police Department has secured the area for the public’s safety. The collapse along with the cleanup process is restricting traffic flow on Main St so expect minor delays.
