Police Investigating After Toddler Struck by Vehicle in Greenbrier
GREENBRIER, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A 1-year-old child sustained serious injuries Monday after being struck by a vehicle in a driveway in Greenbrier.
The accident occurred on Draughon Dr, the first call coming into 911 at 4:24 pm. MAP According to officials, a vehicle was backing up in the driveway of a home on Draughon Dr. when the child was apparently in its path. It appears the child was either struck and/or the vehicle went over the top of the child without the wheels making contact. After impact, the child was dragged a short distance before the vehicle came to a stop, officials said.
Emergency crews responded swiftly, and though serious injury was suspected based on the nature of the incident, officials on scene noted the child (a 16-month-old female) was surprisingly stable when medical crews arrived.
Due to inclement weather, a helicopter transport was not available. According to EMS Director Brent Dyer, the child was instead transported by ground to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital in Nashville in a rapid and coordinated response, with the EMS Battalion Chief/paramedic supervisor riding with the ambulance crew to assist with care during transport. “The child had many abrasions on her head and what appeared as road rash on her back,” Dyer said.
According to Sergeant Rodriguez with the Greenbrier Police Department, the vehicle (believed to be an unmodified Impala) struck and went over the child while backing up, and the child was dragged, but the vehicle’s wheels did not roll onto the child. Rodriguez added that charges are possible pending the outcome of the investigation. “It’s just too early in the investigation.”
As of this report, no further updates have been released regarding the child’s condition.
The Greenbrier Fire Department, the Greenbrier Police Department, Robertson County EMS, and the Robertson County Emergency Management Agency all responded to the scene.
