POLICE: Thieves Searching For Guns Targeting Unlocked Vehicles

GREENBRIER TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – According to Greenbrier Police, many areas, including Greenbrier, are experiencing a significant increase in nighttime vehicle burglaries. Greenbrier police officers recently interrupted several thieves in the process of burglarizing vehicles, however, a dangerous vehicle pursuit ensued and in the interest of public safety, the pursuit was terminated due to the reckless driving behavior on the part of the suspects.

The normal method of operation for these individuals is to steal a car, usually in Nashville, and utilize the vehicle to transport three or four persons to a housing area to break into cars and take whatever they can. One main focus of these groups are guns that are left in unlocked cars in driveways or parking lots.

Many areas surrounding Nashville are experiencing these types of thefts. It is the normal procedure for these thieves to not force their way into a car but simply enter those that are unlocked. While we work to identify the persons involved in these thefts the Greenbrier Police Department urges all residents to remove firearms from their vehicle when it is parked overnight and to always lock your car.
