Auto supplier to invest $11.4 million, create 58 new jobs in Robertson County

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee and Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Bob Rolfe announced today that Togo North America Inc. will invest $11.4 million to establish a production facility in Portland and create 58 jobs over the next five years.

Portland is a city that sits partially in Robertson and Sumner Counties.

Togo North America, a subsidiary of Japan-based Togo Seisakusyo Corporation, produces automotive parts, including hose clamps, return springs and flat springs.

“Tennessee is an ideal place for international manufacturers and offers them a wide range of advantages,” Lee said. “I’d like to thank Togo North America for its commitment to Robertson County and we welcome the company to Tennessee.”

“For decades, Japanese companies have invested considerable amounts of capital in Tennessee, creating more than 50,000 jobs along the way,” Rolfe said. “We’re proud to welcome Tennessee’s newest company with strong Japanese ties to our state. Togo North America’s investment underscores the confidence global companies have in investing in Tennessee.”

Togo North America plans to produce hose clamps at its Portland facility, located in the Tennessee-Kentucky Business Park. The auto supplier will occupy a 107,000-square-foot building at 9534 Eubanks Rd. in Portland, where it anticipates starting operations in the fourth quarter of 2019.

“Tennessee is an ideal location in relation to our customers and their expanding presence south of the boarder,” Sandee Sawdey, Togo North America’s human resource manager, said. “We are looking forward to becoming part of the Portland community. We would like to thank the City of Portland officials and the staff of the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development for all their support in making this a reality. We will be preparing to start production by the end of this year and have many exciting opportunities developing which will increase our global footprint.”

Local officials and the Tennessee Valley Authority praised Togo North America for its investment in Portland.

“The City of Portland is excited to welcome another manufacturer to our community,” Portland Mayor Mike Callis said. “Portland already has a broad range of manufacturing, and Togo North America will be a great addition to our industrial park as we add more job opportunities for our city.”

“TVA and Cumberland Electric congratulate Togo North America on its decision to locate operations in Portland,” TVA Senior Vice President of Economic Development John Bradley said. “TVA is proud to serve with its partners, the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development, city of Portland and Robertson County to help foster job creation and investment and welcome Togo North America to the Valley.”

Portland is represented by Sen. Kerry Roberts (R – Springfield), Sen. Ferrell Haile (R – Gallatin), Rep. Sabi Kumar (R – Springfield) and Rep. William Lamberth (R – Cottontown) in the Tennessee General Assembly.
