Ridgetop Standoff Ends Peacefully Thursday Afternoon
RIDGETOP, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A man wanted on multiple felony warrants was taken into custody without incident Thursday afternoon following a standoff involving Greenbrier Police and the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office.
According to authorities, at approximately 1:46 p.m. on Sept. 24, Greenbrier Police officers identified a vehicle that had previously been involved in a shooting incident in Van Buren County. The driver was actively wanted on several felony warrants and was believed to be armed.
The outstanding warrants included charges of possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest, and felony violation of probation stemming from a child abuse case. After stopping the vehicle, Greenbrier officers attempted to make contact with the driver. The man stated he was experiencing an episode and refused repeated commands to exit the vehicle.
Because of the subject’s outstanding warrants, his prior involvement in a shooting, and information that he may have been armed, the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Response Team and Negotiations Team were requested and responded to the scene.
Personnel from both the Greenbrier Police Department and the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office maintained communication with the subject throughout the incident and worked toward a peaceful resolution.
At approximately 3:53 p.m., the man, identified as 41-year-old Albert Humphries, was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Robertson County Detention Facility. Bond information and a booking photo will be available at robertsonsheriff.com once the booking process is complete.
“The Greenbrier Police Department would like to thank the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office for its assistance and coordinated response, which helped bring the incident to a safe and peaceful conclusion,” Chief Locklayer said.
“Today’s incident resulted in the best-case scenario, with everyone remaining safe. The cooperation, teamwork, and resources shared between agencies helped bring this situation to a peaceful resolution,” Sheriff Michael Van Dyke said.
The investigation remains ongoing.
