SPRINGFIELD, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A serious injury crash has closed Highway 49 at Owens Chapel Road in Springfield, prompting a large emergency response.

Traffic is being diverted at Owens Chapel, and vehicles are turning around at Krisle Elementary School. MAP

According to initial reports, at least one person was trapped in a vehicle following the crash. Cross Plains Fire Department crews began extrication efforts to free the patient while multiple EMS units, firefighters, and law enforcement personnel responded to the scene. Two people were transported from the scene, one in very serious condition.

Robertson County EMS has also dispatched its command unit, and trauma blood products are being administered to the patient. According to officials, this marks the first use of the life-saving trauma blood equipment since implementation approximately two weeks ago.

Motorists should avoid the area and seek alternate routes. Highway 49 is currently closed at Owens Chapel Road, and significant traffic delays are expected.

Expect Hwy 49 to remain closed until about 12:30 PM.
