Severe Weather Blamed For Roof Collapse At Springfield Church

Officials say the severe weather caused the roof at the Church of the Nazarene on Main St in Springfield to collapse sometime last night or early this morning. churchdamage007

Engineers told Smokey that the weight of ice and snow on the roof of the old church as well as ice expansion contributed to cause the roof of the church to collapse.

Luckily no one was inside the structure at the time the roof caved in. The congregation seems to be taking it all in stride.

No one seems to know exactly how old the church is, everyone’s best guess was that the church has been there for about 100 years, making it one of the early landmarks of Springfield.
