Severe Weather Blamed For Roof Collapse At Springfield Church
Officials say the severe weather caused the roof at the Church of the Nazarene on Main St in Springfield to collapse sometime last night or early this morning.
Engineers told Smokey that the weight of ice and snow on the roof of the old church as well as ice expansion contributed to cause the roof of the church to collapse.
Luckily no one was inside the structure at the time the roof caved in. The congregation seems to be taking it all in stride.
No one seems to know exactly how old the church is, everyone’s best guess was that the church has been there for about 100 years, making it one of the early landmarks of Springfield.

So sad about this beautiful church. My mom and dad were married in this church March of 1960 with my dads best friend Don Harp serving as best man. They were also saved in this beautiful church. So many precious memories. I pray it will be restored, I think its very much apart of who and what Springfield is. And its very much a hysterical land mark. Surly there’s something we could do.
I am sorry to see this .my prayers are with you all .The devil is at work .so he is happy right now;just fix it as soon as possible and defeet him ,
I
MY PRAYERS AND THOUGHTS ARE FOR EVERYONE AT THIS CHURCH, HAVE VISITED MANY TIMES AND WAS ALWAYS WELCOMED WITH A SMILE AND RECEIVED A BLESSING EACH TIME.
