Springfield Wins Against Stewart County 43-32, Advances To Championship game.
Coach Kenneth Holman and the Springfield Yellow Jackets faced off against Coach Nick Wallace and the Stewart County Rebels at the Center in Springfield Saturday night. The game was intense and exciting from the opening tip-off to the last whistle. Knowing that the winner of this game would go to the championship, each team gave it their all tonight. Springfield came away with the victory, the final score was 43-32.
Springfield came out firing in the first quarter. They racked up 12 points and each of their five starters scored at least 2 points. Kenaz White got things going for the Yellow Jackets as he hit a deep three pointer to put his team on the scoreboard. Stewart County didn’t shy away though, as they scored seven points to make the score at the end of the first quarter 12-7.
The second quarter was almost a mirror image of the first. Springfield continued to be hot-handed and gave the Rebels all kinds of trouble with their high paced offensive attack. Kenaz White hit another big three pointer but he wasn’t the only Yellow Jacket to have a good second quarter. Adarion Hudson did his best Magic Johnson impersonation and made a beautiful behind the back pass. Aaron Gardner scored 5 points. Demarcus Brewer and Matt Hall also helped give Springfield a 25-13 lead going into halftime.
The third quarter was a different story, Stewart County came out and played havoc with Springfield’s offense. The Rebels slowed the tempo of the game down and allowed the Yellow Jackets to score only one point. Jacob Rore and Will Crain scored three points each and led the Rebels to a 10-1 scoring run to make the score 26-23 at the end of the third quarter.
Being able to score from the free throw line can be a major factor in determining whether a team will win or lose, and it was no different for this game. Springfield started rolling offensively again and held onto their lead until the final 1:30 seconds. That’s when Stewart County was forced to foul the Yellow Jackets to stop the clock and send the Jackets to the free throw line. They needed Springfield to miss some free throws to have a chance to win the game. However, Travion Woodard, Aaron Gardner and Dayron Johnson converted enough free throw shots to extend the score and seal a victory for the Yellow Jackets. Springfield won the game 43-32. Both teams played well throughout the game but Springfield did enough to pull it out in the end. The Yellow Jackets will advance to the championship game next weekend to play against a tough Knox Doss team.
