Springfield Holiday Inn hosts 799th Air Force Reunion

SPRINGFIELD, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) -On September 17, the 799th Air Force reunion group held its annual meeting in Springfield, Tennessee, in the banquet room at the Holiday Inn Express.

The 799th was an Air Force radar (air defense) station on Morgan Rd. at the site of the now the Paradise Ridge Community Center. MAP Their duty was to track all air traffic in the Nashville area. In 2018, a large marker was installed to commemorate their service. This year eight veterans were able to attend (youngest age 85). The group meets the middle week of September each year.

Those in attendance this year were, Jim Hallman, Jerry Swanson, Chuck Delony, Glenn Cornett, Clark Sharp, Gerald Jett, Gene McKinley, and Brian Hoile (left to right in the photo below), supported by many family members and several widows of deceased veterans. Marker photo: Eleanor
