Springfield Home Heavily Damaged In Monday Fire

SPRINGFIELD, TENNESSEE (Smokey Barn News) A Springfield home sustained heavy fire and smoke damage after the back side of the home ignited Monday afternoon.

The fire occurred in the 500 block of 17th Avenue West near Leota Street.. MAP According to witness Jason Barber of Springfield, he was driving by when he noticed heavy smoke coming from the home. Barber said he saw a woman inside who appeared to be trying to get out. Barber told Smokey Barn News the woman was on the porch with a walker, so he ran up through the thick smoke to assist her, guiding her out of the home and to safety.

Springfield Firefighters arrived moments later, along with Springfield Police and Robertson County EMS. Fire crews quickly brought the blaze under control, but the home sustained heavy fire and smoke damage and is likely a total loss. Smokey Barn News has learned there were two other people living in the home, but they were out when the fire started.

The woman was transported to TriStar NorthCrest Medical Center. Her condition has not yet been released but we her condition was reported as stable.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
