Springfield Man Dies Following Deadly Joelton Crash Friday

SPRINGFIELD/JOELTON TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – This will be a follow-up on a serious crash Smokey Barn News reported near Joelton on Friday. The gentleman that initially survived the crash has now succumbed to his injuries, according to Metro Nashville Police.

The crash occurred on Whites Creek Pike at Devils Elbow just below Joelton. LOCATION OF CRASH The crash occurred around 11 AM Friday morning. Metro Nashville Police are investigating.

According to Metro Police Public Information Officer Don Aaron, Joe Thomas Goodfred Jr., 55, of Springfield lost control of his 2002 Ford Ranger pickup truck in the 7000 block of Whites Creek Pike and struck a rock wall. He was critically injured and transported to Skyline Medical Center.  On Monday Aaron confirmed that Mr. Goodfred ultimately died from his injuries. Smokey Barn News has learned that Mr. Goodfred died on Sunday around noon. The cause of the crash has not been released.

Whites Creek Pike in the area of the crash was closed for several hours while the Metro Nashville Police investigated the crash.

A message from Joe’s sister, Kathy Goodfred “His family would like to thank everyone that stayed on the scene with my brother until EMS arrived. He had a heart of gold and was well known in Springfield TN. Thank you all so much.”

The Robertson County Funeral Home in Springfield will be handling the arrangements.

Joe Thomas Goodfred Jr “JoJo” was born September 23, 1967, in Nashville. He was the owner and operator of Joe’s Lawn Service and was a member of Friendship Baptist in Millersville. JoJo enjoyed fishing, collecting miniature racecars, and watching NASCAR, wrestling, and football, especially the Tennessee Titans.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, January 28th at 11:00 a.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
