Springfield Man Shot During Robbery Tuesday

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Smokey Barn News has confirmed with police that a Springfield man was shot  just after 11:00pm Tuesday evening. According to the detective in charge of the investigation, the incident is being classified as a robbery or attempted robbery.

The incident took place on 5th Ave near the Robertson County Detention facility in Springfield. The shooting occurred near 5th Ave and Durrett St. After the shooting the victim then made his way down 5th Ave to the Robertson County jail where he was met by medics and transported to NorthCrest Medical Center.

The victim sustained one gunshot wound to the leg. According to Springfield Police Chief David Thompson, the victim was grazed by the round. Thompson also said the victim may have been nicked by two different shots, the second being a very minor grazing.

According to Thompson, there were actually  two victims. The victims (two males) were on the porch of a home on 5th Ave when two men approached them wearing masks and dark clothing.

The two victims fled, one escaped behind the home and the other ran down 5th Ave towards the Jail and was able to call police. According to Thompson the suspects opened fire on the victim as he fled towards the jail hitting him in the leg.

Witnesses described the suspects as two black males, short in stature and one of the suspects had a handgun.
