Springfield Police Name Suspect in Sunday Morning Shooting

SPRINGFIELD, TENNESSEE (Smokey Barn News) – Springfield Police have identified and charged a suspect in connection with Sunday morning’s shooting on 21st Avenue West. MAP

According to officials, Austin Lamar Smith, age 32, has been booked into the Robertson County Jail. He is facing a charge of Attempted First Degree Murder. Smith was admitted at 8:48 a.m. on Sunday, June 15, 2025. A bond amount has not been set. Smith’s initial court date is scheduled for August 11, 2025, in General Sessions Court.

The shooting took place around 3:15 a.m. Sunday on 21st Avenue West. Upon arrival, Springfield Police discovered a male with a gunshot-related injury. He was transported to Skiline Medical Center in Nashville in critical condition. A passenger car appeared to be a focal point of the investigation, and police taped off a large section of the street.  The unidentified victim remains in critical condition.

This was the second shooting in less than nine hours on the same street. The first incident occurred around 6:46 p.m. Saturday evening on the east side of 21st Avenue. In that case, a man was found with a gunshot wound and later died from his injuries. That investigation is ongoing.

Springfield Police have stated that the two shootings are not related.
