Springfield’s Catfish House CLOSING UPDATE

“We’re staying open for four weeks longer than planned!

“Due to overwhelming demand from our customers (thank you!) and a change to the schedule for the sale of the property, we will now be staying open until September 1st!

“We want to give a special thanks to our incredible staff, whose dedication and loyalty will make this extended window possible. Make sure to show them your appreciation when you visit. It’s a blessing to have the chance to serve this wonderful community for a few extra weeks. See ya’ll soon!”

SPRINGFIELD, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – After 31 years of continuous operation at 3424 Tom Austin Hwy, the Catfish House in Springfield has announced that they will be closing their doors. Their first day of operation was December 3, 1993, and their last day of operation will be August 4, 2024.

“After 31 years of serving this wonderful community, the time has come to close our doors,” said co-owner Staci Atkins.  My husband Lee and I, under the co-ownership of Danny Suiter, have run the restaurant and have worked here our whole lives.

“While we’re excited for our personal journeys ahead, the truth is that it’s hard to say goodbye to the people we’ve come to know here, and to this place. When you’re around this long, you become part of people’s story—a weekly tradition, a place to celebrate, a first job. Some of us have spent half our lives here. It’s been an incredible journey that we’ll miss deeply, and we owe the whole thing to your loyalty and support over the decades.

“Our founding restaurant, the Catfish House in Clarksville, remains open, and we encourage you to visit whenever you’re craving the comfort food you’ve loved for so many years. And we want you to know that we’ll keep providing exceptional service here in Springfield through our final day of operation. Make sure to stop in for a meal over the coming weeks to celebrate the memories we’ve all made here.

“We also want to acknowledge Sheila Head, the face of the restaurant since the very beginning. She has been a grandmother figure to all of us, taking care of everyone both at the restaurant and outside of it as well as managers Brent Bunn and Tommy Dorris have both worked with us for over 25 years. Their dedication and hard work have been instrumental to our success.

“Again, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being part of our journey. We’ll never forget it.”

The Future: According to Staci Atkins, Panda Express has taken over the property and plans to build a new restaurant soon. Panda Express is an American restaurant chain that specializes in American Chinese cuisine. With over 2,200 locations, it is the largest Asian-segment restaurant chain in the United States.
